Description

Why We Built The Slickrock Pant

While the leaves turning colors may signify the end of riding season, it also implies that stunning views and tacky soil are on our immediate agenda. We built our Slickrock Pant to keep us comfortable during the cooler temps of late-season riding with increased coverage and a water-resistant finish that repels moisture from rain or even snowfall. Once afternoon rolls around and the sun comes out, zippered thigh vents not only provide ventilation, but double as an access point to the thigh pockets in our Covert XC Bib Shorts (sold separately) for dynamic snacking capabilities.

  • Riding pants suited for late-season trail riding across disciplines
  • Full gusset lets you bend and contour on techy trail features
  • Articulated knees offer space for seamless knee-pad compatibility
  • Performance fit and silicone-lined waist provide enhanced mobility
  • Zippered ankle gusset makes it easy to get pants on and off
  • Integrated belt ensures an optimal fit regardless of underlayers
  • Zippered thigh vents quickly release heat as you gain the summit

Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.

I love these pants! The fit is absolutely perfect, and the fabric is lightweight and stretchy, and they breathe really well when worn for mountain biking. The other bonus is my knee pads fit perfectly under them, but the pants still look good when wearing them without knee pads. I originally purchased these for mountain biking, and while they have been absolutely perfect for that, I am going to buy a second pair to wear for all other things (camping, hiking, climbing, trail running, and just wearing around). Backcountry absolutely crushed it on these!

Unfortunately after a few long rides they have grown to be too big that not even the belt helps keep them on while riding. I really wanted to love them, but I need something that can last through long tough rides that don’t require me pulling them up every time I stop. I did buy the correct size and I know I would not fit comfortably in a smaller size.

Not the snazziest of MTB pants but definitely the most practical. Super comfy on all day bike rides XC and DH. I snagged a pair of these on sale and they have already paid for themselves. I have fallen through a wooden bridge and also off of one and still no rips! I’m 5’8 145lbs athletic build. Mediums fit loose perfect for knee pads and/or layers

Out of the Box, good but not great

Fit:
Runs small

I have not yet ridden in these as it is not quite cold enough for me to want to wear long pants on rides. Out of the box the pros: nice material, zippers for the tapered ankle, generally flattering fit. Cons: very tight around the waist, a little on the short side, front pockets are pretty useless (especially as a bike pant) because everything gets pinched into your crotch/hip crease, and no rear or leg pocket. For reference I am 5'6", 140, and love the fit of my Backcountry Empire shorts in size Small (the waist is a tad big, but the adjusters make it fit well). I bought a small in the Slickrock pants, and they just feel a bit tight even without chammy underneath. Not sure if I want to return for a medium since the thighs fit well in the current size and too much baggy material in the crotch/thighs/butt causes me to catch on my saddle when I change positions. Banking on the fact that these pants might stretch over time.

These pants are great, I really like the cut, and they are very comfortable. I was surprised though when I tried them on how small they were. I haven't worn them with a chamois to ride yet, but they are going to be super tight, and I have to wear them high since they run so small. The Backcountry shorts run big so I ordered a small and they're very tight on me.

I was totally blown away by these pants. I love the built in belt, which is wide enough it doesn't feel like you are trying to cinch pants around your waist using a piece of string. These are one of the few pairs of pants that fit my hips and my waist. I am totally in love with the waist closure and the material these pants are made of! I've used them a couple times for hikes and bikes and tried to sport climb in them once but my harness pushed down uncomfortably against the thigh vent zippers. If any of Backcountry's climbing pants are made of this same material, I think they would be fantastic and perform well. Can't wait to use these more when the temps drop again.

Pants for ALL things outdoors!

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I have fallen in love with these pants. In fact, they have turned into my everything pant this summer. I hike in them, backpack, bike and basically live in them as a mom. I absolutely love the fit and cut. They are so flattering on me. I have thick thighs and a big butt and these pants accommodate me perfectly. I am 5'4" and roughly 165 pounds. I wear a size large. I can be in between an XL or L in pants, but the L fits me perfectly. The XL would have been too big. I have another pair of all round pants I have been using for years and they have now been replaced by this Backcountry pant. I have found them to be so flattering and so versatile. I love the built in belt, such a great design and works well with my smaller waist. I love the venting options and those silicone grippers on the back of the waist band. Those little grippers are such a little detail, but something I have loved about these pants and helps keep them nice and secure against my body. I have only biked with these pants once due to the summer heat, however I have hiked countless miles, camped and backpacked in them this summer. Not to mention I wear them most days. They have become a part of my mom uniform. What I don't like about these pants. I don't love that the pockets seem to extend to the crotch area. My phone slides sideways in the pocket in front of my pelvic bone and can be uncomfortable. I may sew the pocket up to make it slightly smaller. I wish the snap buttons on the waist band where slightly bigger / more sturdy. Sometimes the top snap comes undone, but usually when I have overtightened the belt. Other than those MINOR details I am in love with these pants. I promise you need them for not only biking, but everything else you do outside! So comfortable, lightweight yet sturdy, breathable, flattering basically everything you would want an outdoor pant to be.

These would be really great but they are way to short and the crotch is really long. I’m sending them back. I’m 5’9 150 and I bought the small.

Are there pants 4-way stretch?

Hey Michele, These pants have some 4 way stretch to them, however, they are not as stretchy as they are durable. These were designed to hold up to abrasion and keep the wearer protected while riding.

I just started mountain biking this winter, so I have been searching for a pair of MTB pants. There aren't that many options out there, so as soon as I saw these I scooped them up. They are exactly what I was looking for - the right length, nice trim fit that doesn't get in the way of pedals, breathable, durable, and comfortable. They even have big vents to dump heat. I'm so impressed with them and love them! 10/10 would recommend!
