It's bike season, and I don't always wanna be the one toting bikes around in my truck, so I bought a friend roof racks so we can share driving times to our sweet bike spots. She loves 'em, I love that they fit her Subaru, and that I don't have to be the only one taking bikes out for play time anymore!

This is a great rack; easy to install, easy to mount the bike, and SECURE for my precious cargo. HOWEVER, when there is no bike in the rack, the rear tray and wheel tie down, when mounted behind the crossbar, slips off and is gone. Does Yakima sell this extra part???? Seems like I'm not the only one who's lost the rear tray.....
This is a very versatile rack. I have seen it used on round and square bars. Should also work on most factory racks. Pleas keep in mind that you will need an adapter for use with thru axles. It is super solid and locks your bike down with confidence.
Works Great easy to install
I got one of these for my wife's 2011 Outback. Out of the box it was pretty much fully built. It only took about 6 mins to install it on her factory rack. I loved that I did need to buy any adapters. I only had to get locks. I had some laying around. The rack work great. It is easy to load bikes and look pretty good also. It is also easy to take off an transfer to my truck when we need to carry extra bike on a road trip.
great rack, but...
This is a great rack. It takes a few minutes to set up, but once its on, its a breeze to take bikes off and on. One caveat though; the rear wheel strap needs to be re-ratcheted before you drive anywhere without a bike on it EVERY TIME! Just ask Megan at Yakima Racks; As soon as I asked if I could get spare parts for the Fork Lift, she said, "Oh, a rear wheel strap?" I might get a second Fork Lift, too, but then the spouse might become suspicious about the number of rides I own...

I got this bike rack for a 99 impreza and it fits perfectly. I have had a mountain and road bike up there and they both ride really well. It was very easy to set up, only took about 10 minutes.
I got this rack for my new car to cary my road bike. I also got it to fit on my friends Jeep as he would be driving me back from a 300 mile bike ride from NJ to DC I just participated in..
Needless to say the versatility of this rack was the main feature I purchased for. Also it is tough and strong as nails.. Had some serious wind on the drive home and it stood its ground, and the bike was locked solid the entire ride.
Mounted on my stock rack on my 02' Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. Subaru hatchback guys will know it needs to be installed backwards to allow clearance for hatch to open.
Installed two of the racks on a 2010 4Runner Trail in about 20 minutes. The bikes were held securely in the rack, no issues driving 75mph on the highway. I moved the front bar of my cargo rack all the way forward, and can open the back of the SUV without the rear door hitting the tires of the bikes (had a Yeti 575 and a Specialized hardtail on it). This is an easy solution for people who want to use factory-installed roof racks. Don't forget to buy the SKS lock cores.

Does anyone know if this will fit a 2009 Outback Wagon. I am concerned that I will not be able to open the rear hatch with the racks on the car. I know for sure that the bike tire will hit the rear hatch, that is not my concern. I don't want to have to take the rack on and off again to restore the functionality of the rear hatch.
You have the option of running the fork mounts backward on your factory rack. Instead of mounting the fikes with the fork facing the front of your vehicle, you can simply mount the rack on the back bar with the rear wheel facing the front fo the car, and you should be golden., If you have not already tried to mount the Frk Lift on the factory bars, try moving your front bar all the way forward and then attaching the fork lifts If this does not work and you still have contact with the rear Hatch, attach it as I recommended earlier and you will be fine,
I have a 2009 Outback. No need to mount this backwards it literally fits like a glove. I have about .5" clearance when the rear hatch is open. Just make sure your front cross bar is all the way forward.

do these racks work with vw touareg cross bars? the factory racks are oval shaped and pretty wide... also - can you lock the racks to the factory bars or just the bikes to the rack? and how many locks do i need to order? thanks - j
check the yakima site for compatability with your car. You will need one lock core for the rack and it will lock it to the crossbars as well as lock the bike in the rack.
i've got a vw touareg 05, these work like a charm. I've got two on my roof right now, just remember to get the locking cores.
2 on Outback Factory rack
Been using 2 of these for the whole summer in Jackson Hole. Both are on the factory rack of my 05 outback. I was nervous when i bought em that two bike racks wouldn't work on the factory rack, but they work fine, w bikes of all size.
Did one longer drive, about 4 hours to sun valley. Got going pretty fast at points and the bikes were fine.
I read it was easy to put these on and it wasn't a lie - I was surprised to be done as fast as I was.
If you don't want to change out your factory rack this is the bike rack for you!

just wanted to confirm, it will work with Yakima round bars as well? We have a 2010 Toyota RAV4 with the factory crossbars but also want to be able to use this on our other car which has the Yakima round bars. I think it will work, but just wanted to confirmed with anyone else that has the same hybrid situation (one vehicle w/factory crossbars & one vehicle with yakima round bars). thx!

A good choice for 2009 Impreza
Like another reviewer here, it works well so far on the factory roof bars of my 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport - even though Yakima has yet to list it. And it does not interfere with the hatchback. Holds bike firmly, easy to use and easy on the eyes. I bought the SKS lock cores to go with it, and normally put a brightly colored cable lock through the crossbars, frame and rear wheel as an added visual deterrent.
Only con so far is that when empty, it does generates some wind noise at higher speeds, not the whistling or annoying kind, but you know it's there. Never had any other type of roof rack, so nothing to compare it too.
The head is a bit bulky and the fit isn't as firm as my Steelhead mount on my Yakima round cross bars, but this is the price paid for versatility. Installation was simple. It holds my bike with disc brakes and if I buy a new car with a factory rack, I'm confident that it will fit.
