S-Works Carbon Rib Cage III

The S-Works series includes the most premier cycling gear from Specialized, and the S-Works Carbon Rib Cage III is the crème de la crème of water holders. After all, we wouldn't strap a flimsy plastic bottle holder to an all-carbon Specialized S-Works frame. Such a fine steed deserves a bottle cage worthy of the same sleek look and all-carbon construction.

  • Bottle cage is part of the Specialized S-Works series
  • Carbon construction offers stiff retention without weight
  • Split design provides easy on-and-off

Not secure enough

I've put it through the wringer

I bought two of these last year and have been using them for almost a year now. They look great with my bike and I thought they were okay until they dropped a bottle (Camelbak Podium 24oz). First time was on a solo ride coming down a descent at ~50mph. There was some kind of slight drop in the road and both bottles were ejected. I thought it was a fluke so I continued to use them. But this past weekend it happened again during a race in 90 degree temps. One stretch of road had a lot of potholes and impossible to avoid them all while riding in the pack. Front bottle was lost and luckily didn't take anybody out behind me. Back bottle came halfway out but I was able to push it back down before it fell out. Not exactly ideal to lose half my water supply during a hot race. One of the two cages does seem to be slightly tighter than the other, but neither is completely secure. Needless to say I will be looking for a replacement to these. Unfortunate since they are so expensive.

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

What can I say about a $70 bottle cage. A few ideas come to mind initially: you’re crazy, kinda stupid, what’s wrong with you, you ok? But hey, if you want a sleek, really good looking, aesthetically pleasing, strong and well built bottle cage to match (in my case) a Specialized Diverge - this is the one. Obviously $70 on a bottle cage is borderline insane but so far, feels strong, looks amazing, built well and probably as good as it gets when it comes to ENVE level pricing on accessories. They also make one. For $70. Pick your poison. Will report back after some use to see if this thing will actually last.
