Rear tire selection on technical trail and enduro terrain involves a specific trade-off: grip and casing protection add rolling resistance, and fast-rolling compounds sacrifice traction at the moment you need it most. The Eliminator Grid Gravity T7/T9 TLR from Specialized is engineered to reduce that compromise through a dual-compound construction that assigns different rubber formulations to different parts of the tread based on their function.

The center tread runs GRIPTON T7 compound, a harder formulation that minimizes rolling resistance on flat, straight terrain and improves range on e-MTB applications. The shoulder knobs use GRIPTON T9, a softer, higher-grip compound that activates under lean angle—exactly where cornering and braking traction are generated. The block-in-block shoulder knob architecture supports smooth transitions from center to edge tread, reducing the abrupt shift in feel that can unsettle the rear wheel mid-corner on loose or inconsistent surfaces. The alternating center tread pattern further reduces rolling resistance while maintaining the biting edge geometry needed for traction on soft and intermediate terrain. The 60TPI Grid Gravity casing is a 2-ply construction designed for aggressive riding conditions. The dual-ply sidewall resists deformation under hard cornering loads and provides meaningful protection against square-edge impacts and pinch flats on rocky, rooted terrain.
