I wanted to like this lube since I'm a big fan of Silca products but can't say that my experiences have been as favorable as the other reviewer's. The only other wax lube I've used is Squirt which seems to work pretty well on my mountain bikes. Before using the Silca lube I thoroughly cleaned and dried my chain and then applied the lube. Based on a few hundred miles of riding on the road, the Silca lube has two problems. First it makes the chain sound dry from the get go. I'm used to wax lubes sounding dry after maybe a hundred miles on a road bike, but this made my Campy drive train sound like it needs more lube after a mile or two. The second thing is chain fling-- it speckles the chain stay of my white Colnago with black spots where the lubricant is parting company with the chain (after 12 hours of drying). Maybe these are little flakes of tungsten di-sulfide or whatever the 'secret' ingredient is? Don't know, but I don't like the mess it makes. There are no directions for application so I've been using it like Squirt, apply and let dry -- don't wipe off the chain. As to whether the lube saves watts or preserves your drive train, you would need a chain dynamometer to assess that. So for me it's back to the Dumonde Tech Lite on my road bike--it's cleaner and quieter.
