Why We Like The Sidi Drako 2 SRS Cycling Shoe

Few shoes can rival the quality, fit, and durability of Sidi's Italian-made, high-end cycling shoes. Riders enjoy season after season of reliable service due to the quality construction and the ability to replace parts when they wear out. The Drako is one of Sidi's premier mountain bike shoes, and delivers outstanding performance on all fronts. It's been proven at the World Cup level by the likes of Absalon and Schurter, ensuring those of us aspiring to ride at that level have absolute confidence in our equipment. After building up a healthy reputation of XC domination over the years, Sidi went back to the drawing board to give the Drako some updates that improve comfort and performance while shedding a bit of weight in the process. With a sleeker upper strap, a repositioned lower dial, redesigned uppers, a new heel cup, and some striking new colorways, the Drako 2 SRS Mountain Bike Shoe continues Sidi's heritage of making some of the best riding shoes on the market.

The Drako 2 sits right near the top of Sidi's lineup, just below the race-specific Tiger shoe. Both shoes share the same uber-light and uber-stiff SRS Carbon sole, the difference is that the Tiger omits the Soft Instep Closure strap at the top of the foot in favor of dual Tecno-3 dials on the tongue. This design saves some weight and makes it a bit quicker to get the shoes on or off, but the Soft Instep Closure System found on the Drako 2 allows you to adjust the side to side position of the strap for optimal comfort, while providing a bit of extra security for the top of your foot. The new closure strap is a bit sleeker and lighter, and is easily replaceable if damaged or worn out.

Comparing the Drako 2 to its predecessor, the updated version sees the lower Tecno-3 Push Dial Adjuster moved from the side of the shoe to the top of the padded tongue. The idea behind this is to provide a more secure fit and equal tension across the whole foot. Sidi also gave the Drako 2 a new heel cup that keeps your foot in an optimal position without slippage while preventing deformation of the shoe from extreme performance or prolonged pressure. The heel cup is mated to new uppers as well. The new uppers are made of the same sturdy, lightweight, weather-resistant, and eco-friendly Techpro Microfiber as the previous model, but feature a unique textured finish and new matte colors that give the Drako 2 a one-of-a-kind look.

One thing that stays the same is the MTB SRS Carbon Sole. The sole comprises a medium-modulus carbon body supplemented with SRS tread blocks and a cleat wear plate, the latter two of which are replaceable. Using a medium-modulus carbon as the base provides a slight flex along the length of the foot with no compromise to the overall rigidity of the sole, a delicate but necessary balance for top-level off-road shoes.

Sidi's heel retention device also stays the same, using an adjustable, rigid composite band that closes the shoe more securely over your heel to anchor it in place around your Achilles. No matter how much power you're pouring into the pedals, your heel will stay in place inside the shoe, even if you leave a bit of slack in the Tecno-3 lines in order to alleviate pressure across your metatarsals.

Recommend but run slightly small

I've used it several times
Size Bought:

My feet are 43.5 left and 44.5 right so not perfectly symmetrical. I normally wear a Sidi shoe as I have long, thin feet with a normal arch. If you normally wear Sidis you'll love these shoes, though I did find that they run about 1/2 size small. I ended up ordering a size 45 because my toes just touched the front edge of the 44.5s which would not have been comfortable with the feet swelling after eight to ten hours in the saddle. Highly recommend

So so

I've put it through the wringer

I was disappointed by these shoes. The fit is challenging and the boa on the top of the shoe puts a lot of downward pressure on the top of my foot. They are also very heavy relative to my other shoes. I would say these are a "pass".

Great Shoe with Room to Improve

I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
5' 7"

Use: Advanced technical trails and burley enduro terrain (Northeast) Heavy use through summer, appox 20 hrs per week. Dry hot Summer & Fall , very little rain. I upgraded to the Drako 2 after the original leather SIDI shoes I purchased tore after a few rides. The Drako is a comfortable snug shoe right out of the box, and what a great looking shoe!! The boa system is pretty slick but I need to snug it up a couple times during the ride. I do find the tightening lever popped open from time to time. The red button is likely getting triggered in overgrown singletrack. At first I was worried but its really no bigs. The synthetic material has been excellent. I'm in really narrow rocky terrain and the Drako 2 is worlds better than the soft leather model I started with. I do have 3 complaints. 1) the insole insert is a too thin. Most of my rides are in the 2 - 5 hour range. I found that after 2 hours the insole was unbearable. I've never had a bike hurt the bottom of my feet like this one. I purchased 2 different insert brands both were too think to use. I was able to find an insole from an old pair of running shoes that offered more comfort. I still think it could be better but I don't have a lot of options at this point. For the money that these shoes cost you'd think there would be a better insole. To me this was a total miss with the product engineers. 2) Carbon fiber sole makes for walking on any rocky totally sketchy. The lugs on the shoe offer virtually no assistance. I have noticed they sell replacement lugs. Again this to me was a total miss by the product designers. I guess if you never come out of your pedals you'd be okay.... if not... then its literally like walking on ice. 3) Fabric liner holds odor. They got wet on one ride the end of the Summer. I don't have odor problems with any of my shoes, ( I guess I'm just lucky like that) but these shoes smell like my kids cheap soccer cleats after a few wet practices and 3 days in the trunk. I find that the leatherette material on cleats is better than the soft liner that comes on this shoe. These shoes go on a shoe dryer after each ride... and its still a problem. Its only now getting better after spraying shoe deodorizer in there the last 3 weeks. They really should explore a higher quality odor resistant liner material. Outside of those 3 issues its an amazing shoe and I would recommend them to anyone.
