The Showers Pass Refuge Pants tell you almost everything you need to know right there in their name — a refuge from the rain — but we know that you want to know the whole story, so throw on your poncho and prepare for the deluge of technical details that make these pants so amazing.

Aside from coming from a company dedicated entirely to making the best rain gear on the market, the Refuge pants received special attention to truly live up to their title. They're constructed of a fully seam-taped three-layer hardshell fabric that SP calls Elite, which serves to completely seal out the rain while still permitting excellent breathability and evacuation of moisture. To that end, there are thigh vents to allow extra air circulation when necessary to prevent overheating. To ensure even greater comfort, the pants' seat is reinforced and also perforated, because moisture that accumulates down under can rapidly lead to blisters and soreness.

Yet, despite so much attention to promoting the pants' comfort, their fabric receives an amazing 15K/15K waterproof/breathability rating, putting them on par with far heavier and more expensive specialty gear and ranking them higher than any other cycling pants on the market.

To make the pants especially livable, whether you're crossing the country or simply commuting, there are a number of additional smart details. All zippers are full waterproof to protect any cargo, and there are reflective graphic elements all over to ensure excellent visibility when light is low. Hook-and-loop straps keep the pant bottoms from getting caught in your chain or crank, and they also feature zippered openings to ensure they easily fit over shoe covers.
