XT SL-M8000 I-Spec II Trigger Shifter

Borrowing much of its technology from crème de la crème XTR shifters, the Shimano XT SL-M8000 I-Spec II Trigger Shifter offers the razor-sharp shifts and ergonomic feel of its racier brother, but at an affordable price that only sacrifices a few grams. Despite being friendly on your wallet, the M8000 Shifter commands precise gear shifts with the astounding durability known to Shimano's XT M8000 group. This particular version benefits from its I-Spec II integrated mounting system, which cleans up your cockpit with the use of newer XT and XTR brake levers. This clean mounting system also saves a couple of grams while increasing the range of angular adjustability to your particular liking.

Shimano designed the M8000 to command control over the wide range of gears found on their newest 11-speed drivetrains. It's revamped with a longer lever body for easier shifting with less force required to initiate the shifting mechanism. The anti-slip surface on the main lever improves tactile feel while lessening the likelihood of slipping out when critical shifts are needed in demanding terrain. These features, combined with a new shift cable covered in a low-friction coating, create a 20-percent reduction in force required for gear shifts. Ultimately, this translates to less fatigue of your fingers while you're riding for hours on the trail.

For even better shifting, the M8000 features two-way release that permits you to shift the upper lever with either your thumb or index finger, depending on where your hands are situated on the bars. Multi-release functionality provides the ability to shift through multiple gears with the single sweep of a lever while the instant release design ensures the proper gear is selected the instant you throw the lever.

  • Precise gear shifts for Shimano 11-speed drivetrains
  • I-Spec II for clean mounting with new XT and XTR brakes
  • 20% easier shifts with longer lever and low-friction cable
  • Anti-slip surface reduces likelihood of finger slipping
  • 2-way release for upper lever shifts with thumb or index finger
  • Multi-release function for shifting through multiple gears
  • Instant release design ensures instantaneous gear selection

Does this shifter come with regular bar clamp? I plan using with different brakes.

I've used it several times

Shifts well but it has failed and I'm starting to hear this a fair amount. Leveler no longer engages.

Solid upgrade

I've put it through the wringer

I upgraded from the SLX lever that came on my Yeti after I cracked the old one in an OTB. This one is a huge upgrade. What immediately stands out is the feel of the shifter: it's got a good size lever with a 'rough' face so your fingers don't slip. The action is clean and tight, which gives maximum control over the shifting. It's easy to jump a couple gears at a time. Adjustments are simple and accessible. And it seems to be holding up well. I did just go OTB again last week and cracked the mounting plate, but was able to order a new one for $10. I need to stop doing that. In case it's helpful, I have it paired with an XT derailleur and a chinese cassette with 500% range, and it runs like clockwork.

Hard Effort Shifting Compared to SLX

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Coming from well-loved SLX shifters that were paired to my old 2x10 drivetrain, I finally decided to join the 1x11 club. These shifters have a VERY positive end feel and take significantly more effort to shift than SLX. You can still upshift relatively easy and even grab two gears at a time, but the downshift feels slower, quite loud/clunky, and is only 1 gear at a time. I thought I got a dud pair at first, but other friends who have bought these agree they have a 'SRAM-like feel.' Not sure if this is a product of the crisp fast movement of the newer XT M8000 RD, but for a non-racer like myself this will unfortunately take some getting used to! If you're accustomed to the low-effort smooth SLX shifters, I would stick with those and buy the I SPEC-II adapters to mount them under your new brake levers.

Sweet Shifter

I've put it through the wringer

Reasonably priced 11 speed shifter that pairs up perfectly with your Shimano I-Spec II brake levers.

Does this come with cable and housing as well? Enough housing for full length internal routing?

Smooth as butter

I've put it through the wringer

Great shifter...works well and makes the chain go up/down the cassette. Ability to shift with your thumb/index finger on one 'button' is a bonus vs. other shifter systems.

Will this mount onto a Shmano SLX Dynasys brake lever? Looks like it would. Also, the right is an 11 speed shifter, right?

Hi, this XT shifter is 11 speed, it will mount directly to all new Shimano mountain brake levers that are I-Spec II compatible (that's the M9000, M8000, and M7000 series). If you have any other tech questions feel free to give us a call! Daniel Iverson Gearhead - Bike 801-736-6396 ext. 3598
