Reassuring routines.

Refreshing your brake fluid and changing your brake cables makes for a satisfying early season ritual, and having some extra Shimano Hydraulic Mineral Oil on-hand never hurts in case you need to do some mid-season maintenance as well. Plus, at 50ml, this size won't take up too much space if your bike maintenance area has been relegated to a small shelf in the garage.

Nice size and bottle design

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a great size bottle for the occasional brake bleed. The quirt bottle makes dispensing fluid very easy.

Home Mechanic Essential

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Dont pay a shop to bleed your brakes. Grab some mineral oil and a Shimano bleed kit and do it in your garage. Super easy to do and you'll save yourself some cash in the long run.

DIY Brake Bleed

Used to bleed some Shimano XT brakes with the syringe and bleed kit on the site. Glad to be able to do this myself when needed.

    DIY Brake Maintenence

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Combine this with the Shimano bleed kit, and you never have to worry about not having stopping power before a big trip and your LBS is closed. Easy to bleed your own brakes right at home.

    the Solution to mushy brakes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is what you want for bleeding your Shimano hydraulic brakes once they start feeling mushy or not as responsive. One bottle is enough to last a lifetime of brake usage. My Deore XT brakes from 2002 are still going strong and I've barely put a dent in the bottle. Make sure to confirm that your brakes use mineral oil and not DOT fluid before bleeding. Also check to see if the Shimano brakes you are bleeding use a open reservoir (less common) or a nozzle design. If your brakes have the latter, make sure to pick up a Shimano bleed kit which will have everything you need.

Rarely used, but nice to have

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

While you may only need to bleed your Shimano brakes once every leap year, having extra mineral oil around is nice to have. One bottle has lasted me awhile and made it easy to top off my fluid in case my brakes start feeling a bit soft or spongy. Easy to use with their funnel or bleed kit to get that perfect feel.
