Trail-capable Salsa Timberjack Eagle 70 hardtail with Eagle 70 Transmission and bikepacking mounts

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"The Timberjack Eagle 70 is a practical, durable hardtail with real bikepacking capability built in. It runs SRAM's Eagle 70 Transmission groupset on a double and triple-butted 6061-T6 aluminum frame with a RockShox Psylo Silver RC 140mm fork and SRAM DB4 four-piston brakes. The Alternator 2.0 UDH-compatible dropouts adapt to different hub standards and single-speed setups by swapping dropout plates, keeping the bike versatile for different builds. Long, low, and slack geometry with a 66-degree head tube and 75-degree seat tube keeps the bike stable on technical terrain and efficient on sustained climbs."

Who It's For

Trail riders who want a versatile hardtail with built-in bikepacking capability.

The Timberjack Eagle 70 targets intermediate to advanced riders who want a single bike capable of handling aggressive singletrack and loaded overnight routes without compromise. It suits those who want a trail-sharp hardtail with cargo infrastructure already in place, rather than retrofitting a trail bike for adventure use.

What It's For

Technical singletrack, bikepacking routes—rides where trail performance and carrying capacity matter.

The Timberjack's long wheelbase and 66-degree head tube angle keep it planted and confident on steep, technical terrain while the 140mm Psylo fork absorbs trail chatter on demanding singletrack. Short, adjustable chainstays keep the rear end nimble and responsive on tight trails. Multiple cargo mounts, including bottle mounts, downtube accessory mounts, and top tube bag compatibility, make this a capable bikepacking platform without adding bulk or weight to the core setup.

Why We Like It

Double and triple-butted aluminum construction, Eagle 70 Transmission, and genuine versatility.

Salsa's proprietary 6061-T6 aluminum tubing is double and triple-butted in the main triangle for a frame that's light, responsive, and durable. Full-length internal routing for brake lines and shift cable housing is reliable in wet and muddy conditions and simplifies frame bag fitment.

SRAM Eagle 70 Transmission with a 10-52 cassette and 30t chainring covers every gradient on trail and loaded bikepacking routes alike. The Alternator 2.0 dropout system ships with UDH-compatible fixed-position plates and accepts additional dropout plate options sold separately for single-speed use or alternate hub standards, keeping the drivetrain setup flexible for different builds. SRAM DB4 four-piston brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear provide confident, powerful stopping on steep descents.

Teravail Clifty 29x2.5 tires with Durable casing and Grip Plus compound front and rear handle loose, rocky, and technical trail surfaces with grip and reliability. The TranzX dropper post keeps rider position dialed across varied terrain. WTB ST Tough i30 rims are tubeless-compatible and ship with TCS sealant and valves included, ready to set up tubeless out of the box.

Heads up! We do our best to keep bike specs and images current, but occasional component changes can happen without warning, and sometimes the photos might not show the exact build you'll receive. If you want to double-check the details, our Gearheads are always here to help.
