The apex of mountain bike stems.
We'd like to say that the Renthal Apex Stem is the perfect match for your excellent new Renthal handlebar — and it is — but really, that statement is too small, because the Renthal Apex Stem is perfect for any handlebar. It's a fantastic piece of engineering and manufacturing from the geniuses over at Renthal's UK-based factory and headquarters, and it would be a great addition to any mountain bike out there.
The Apex stem begins life as a block of 2014-series aluminum, before it's CNC-machined down into the shape you see here. The remaining structure is optimized for absolute stiffness and durability — and with an extensive background in motocross, Renthal knows a thing or two about mitigating the torsional and impact forces imparted by wide handlebars. Still, weight is kept way down, making it an appropriate piece for cross-country machines, not just all-mountain heavy hitters. Those dual clamps up front that constitute the "faceplate" are fashioned from 7075-series aluminum, and their unique shape encompasses 240 degrees of the handlebar, more than virtually all other faceplated stem designs, affording an extremely secure, stiff, and stable platform while minimizing safety-compromising pressure points on the bar.
The Renthal Apex Stem comes in one finish —Black/gold, and in 10mm length increments, from 40mm to 90mm.
- CNC machined from solid 2014-series aluminum
- 7075 aluminum clamping hardware
- Snazzy Art Deco styling

31.8 stem doesn't say it anywhere I see?
Assumed this was a 35mm. my mistake. But I don't see it called out anywhere in the spec's
Is this product intended for 31.8mm handlebars or 35mm?
Well Made Stem
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Really nicely made. Looks can be polarizing with its gold-ish faceplate (which btw doesnt really match with anything outright), but its easy to see the quality of the product in the way that it is machined. The tolerances are impressively tight.... to install the bar i actually had to insert the bar by its narrower tapered section and slide it over. The faceplate is also secured by a slightly different system where you tighten the bottom two bolts all the way down then only have to worry about the right torque for the top two bolts.
Beautiful Piece of Metal
I've matched this up with Renthal's FatBar. It looks great and works as designed. Very nice craftsmanship@
