Race Face tuned the ERA eMTB 27.5in Boost Wheel to stay planted, responsive, and durable lap after lap

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I've put a lot of hours on the ERA eMTB, and the thing that stays with me is how lively it feels for a wheelset rated to handle this much weight and torque. Most eMTB wheels I've ridden feel built for survival rather than performance — stiff, planted, but dead under you. The ERA eMTB tracks through rough terrain with the kind of confidence you want on a big, fast bike, and when I push hard out of a corner, the rear picks up and drives forward exactly when I need it to. It's a wheel that makes the bike better, not just more durable."

Standard mountain bike wheelsets are designed around a rider and bike weight that full-power eMTBs simply don't represent. Added motor weight, sustained torque loads, and the harder repeated impacts generated by covering more ground at higher speeds all stress a wheelset in ways that trail-spec carbon wheels aren't built to handle consistently. The Race Face ERA eMTB 27.5in Boost Wheel was engineered from the rim profile outward to address those demands without sacrificing the ride quality that makes carbon wheels worth the investment.

The front wheel is built around a front-specific 18.6mm deep rim profile, chosen to tune lateral compliance 15% stiffer than the standard ERA front wheel. On a full-power eMTB, the additional weight moving through a corner demands a front wheel that holds its line rather than flexing laterally under load — the stiffer compliance characteristic keeps the wheel glued to the intended line through rough, high-speed sections where the consequences of front-end wander are significant. The rear wheel takes a different approach: a 22.6mm deep rim profile is laced with 32 larger gauge spokes to a heavy-duty Vault hub featuring 3-degree engagement and a reinforced steel axle. The spoke count and gauge are deliberate choices for eMTB use, where sustained drive torque and repeated hard impacts require more material in the lacing system than a standard trail build provides. The 3-degree engagement delivers fast, consistent power transfer that keeps pace with the motor's output. Anvil Edge bead walls reinforce the tire interface on both wheels, adding protection against the pinch flat and bead damage that heavier, faster riding increases the frequency of. The 30mm internal rim width supports the wider tire profiles most eMTB riders run for traction and stability without compromising the lateral stiffness the compliance tuning is built around.

The wheelset carries a 150kg system weight rating and is approved for up to 130Nm of maximum drive assist torque — concrete specifications that reflect actual eMTB use rather than extrapolated trail ratings. For riders on full-power platforms who have experienced the degraded trail feel and accelerated wear that comes with running trail-spec wheels on a motorized build, the ERA eMTB 27.5in Boost Wheel is the wheelset engineered to solve both problems simultaneously.
