The PRO Tharsis 9.8 Handlebar is where world cup engineering meets trail accessibility
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"The PRO Tharsis 9.8 Handlebar is one of the most capable alloy bars I have specced across downhill and enduro builds at any price point. The AL-7050-T76 double butted construction is a material choice you typically see on bars costing significantly more, and the reinforced ribbed mid section gives the bar a torsional stiffness that translates directly into precise, confidence-inspiring handling on technical and high-speed terrain. The cutting indications are clean and accurate which makes width customization fast and easy during a fit session or race day setup adjustment."
The demands of world cup downhill racing represent the absolute ceiling of what a handlebar is required to withstand, and the PRO Tharsis 9.8 Handlebar is engineered to meet that standard without compromise. Developed for the highest level of the sport and equally relevant across enduro and aggressive trail applications, it is a bar that brings professional-grade construction to any performance mountain bike build.
The AL-7050-T76 double butted alloy is a premium material choice that delivers a superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to the more widely used 6061 and 7075 alloys found in bars at this price point. Double butting varies wall thickness along the bar length, concentrating material where stress loads are highest and removing it where they are not, resulting in a bar that weighs 330 grams without sacrificing the structural integrity required for repeated high-impact use. The reinforced ribbed construction at the mid section adds torsional stiffness precisely at the clamping zone, eliminating flex under the hard braking and cornering forces generated at race speeds and translating rider input into immediate, precise front-end response.
The geometry is dialed for aggressive riding with a 30mm rise, 8-degree backsweep, and 4-degree upsweep that positions the rider's hands and wrists in a strong, neutral position suited to both the attack position on a steep descent and the endurance demands of a long enduro stage. Starting width of 800mm with clean cutting indications at 20mm intervals down to 720mm gives builders and riders a meaningful range of setup options to match frame geometry, rider shoulder width, and trail preference without compromising bar integrity at any cut point. The 31.8mm clamp diameter ensures broad stem compatibility across current downhill, enduro, and trail platforms.
