An ideal ride is one in which you push your skillsets just a bit to find that edge, but not so much that the ride comes to an abrupt end. The Elevate is a medium-weight and breathable slip-on knee guard that offers protection against minor abuse you'll find during enduro and trail sessions. If you do happen to tuck the front wheel under while lining up that berm, the D30 LPI padding absorbs some of the impact and the Cordura 4-way stretch fabric fends off abrasion.
As the ride turns more metabolic and the heat picks up in the switchbacks, the mesh fabric provides breathability, and the full rear-knee cut-out dumps heat and eliminates bunching. Pearl Izumi uses a long knee warmer length design for the fit, as well as comfortable elastic and silicone to ensure ride-long placement so that you can focus on the trails.

I really like these pads. The design is very well thought out and results in a very protected feeling pad while still being very mobile, lightweight and breathable. Pearl Izumi designed these pads to fit just like their thermal knee warmers. But there is a small difference. The material on the front of the sleeve doesn't stretch nearly the way that the material does on the thermal knee warmers. This makes them way more durable and protective. In my case though it confirmed what I had already suspected&my PI knee warmers are too small. I can get away with it though due to the stretch. Not so much with the pads. They are too small. That's not PI's fault, that's on me. But fit is everything in the word of knee pads and these will need to be one size larger. Make sure you know your size. Everything else is awesome!

I've tried over a dozen of knee pads ranging from super thin XC pads to more bulky enduro setups. These are by far the most comfortable for 2 reasons: 1) the open area in the back of the knee prevents bunching common in other pads; and 2) being super long the calf portion is mostly below the bulk of the calf muscles and so isn't as constricting. Also, the pad is much more substantial than a lot of other pads so they offer pretty darn good protection. Super happy with these and I'll be buying them again when they eventually bite the dust.

I've tried a number of other pads from POC and ION, but were always left frustrated by how they never stayed in place. I enjoy trail riding where I'm pedaling a decent amount, so I need pads that won't slip down and bunch above my knees. Pearl Izumi has finally solved this puzzle with these pads! The longer sleeve design (almost like a knee warmer) really does stay in place high up on the thigh. On 2hr rides where I used to have to adjust my pads 3-4 times.....no more. These are super comfortable, and the ventilated knee design really does let air through for cooling. The rubber pads slip out so you can easily wash the sleeves. And the best indicator yet: sitting around having a post-ride beer, I forgot I even still had them on. THAT comfortable! The high cost was definitely worth it to me.
