Description

Transfer 2 Bike Rack

Sticking your bike—or worse, a pair of steeds—into the trunk involves painstakingly puzzle-piecing your disassembled rides and all of your gear together without damaging anything or getting chain grease everywhere,  Fortunately for those of us who aren't puzzle masters, the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Rack solves the travel problem with an easy to load hitch-mount setup.

The Transfer 2 utilizes tray-style mounts and a locking system that doesn't touch the frame. A rear wheel strap and a front ratcheting arm hold bikes securely in place without needing to put pressure on the frame's tubes or cable guides, and Kuat's PerfectFit adjustment system also lets you fine-tune the front wheel cradles to avoid any potential contact between bikes.

Carrying your bikes securely is one thing, but being convenient is another, but Kuat made sure the Transfer 2 is both safe and easy to use. It folds up cleanly out of the way when not in use via an easy-to-use spring-mounted foot pedal, and it features a third locking position that angles the rack down so you can add a last minute cooler of tasty snacks and beverages to the trunk before embarking on a trail-slaying or pavement-cruising adventure.

  • Budget-friendly hitch bike rack built for tough, reliable transport
  • PerfectFit adjustment system ensures your bike will fit
  • Front ratcheting arm holds bike securely without frame contact
  • Folding design helps make storage a breeze
  • Multiple locking positions allow access to trunk

Great rack

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was putting off buying a platform rack due to the cost but after my hanging one caused my bike to scratch my car I knew it was time to take the plunge. Was pleasantly surprised to find such an affordable option. For being the 'budget' option - the rack and all of its components were super high quality and it came with everything I needed to install myself. The foot pedal tilt is great!

Easy

Stays on the SUV all summer. Never really a reason to take off the hitch. It’s super nice moving up/down to get in to the boot. Even goes through the car wash with no problems. Doesn’t block my rear view camera. Overall great product and very nice design.

    Great rack

rack arrived in two days free shipping as advertised. simple to put together. holds my mtn and road bike securely. Easy to use. Off set enough that bike handle bars to not interfere with each other. I recommend this product.

      Great customer service

My brother in law checked a lot of places regarding the purchase of a bike rack. He got a pretty good deal and free 2 day shipping! It came and he needed to assemble it but said the directions were easy to follow and didn’t take too long to put it together. I decided to get one for me and called and spoke with John. He was very nice and kind to deal with. Although I got different quotes and shipping prices I mentioned my brother in law and the pricing he received and John matched the same! He was a very nice person and kind~
Thank you and excited about our new bike rack!
        Sincerely,
        G Patterson

        Kuat Transfer

        Great Basic Hitch Rack

This was my first hitch rack and I will never go back! This is easy to use - and transfer between my 1.25 inch hitch and my husband's 2 inch hitch. And it didn't break the bank.
Its super easy to use and put together! A win in my book!

          Great Rack, Great Price

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is my first hitch rack for a mountain bike and I wanted to go with something a little friendlier on the wallet, but that wouldn't be any less sturdy than the more expensive versions. This rack does it all! It is so easy to load bikes, is very sturdy and easily tilts without a pin system for easy access to your trunk. This doesn't come with a locking pin or locking frame, so I would suggest purchasing the Kuat Locking Hitch Pin and the transfer cable lock kit.

          Nice Rack :)

Great price point, step up after constant hassle of using trunk racks!

          Great rack!

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rack is a great option if you dont wanna spend over $400 on a hitch rack. It's simple, and gets the job done. It's also very well built! I've tried the comperable thule rack, and IMO the Kuat is far superior. To address the negative review, you have to be a little bit handy during assembly so that the arms dont stick (do not overtighten). I love my Transfer 2, and so will you!

          Good value

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I went with this option because I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a hitch rack. Regarding the negative review, you definitely have to make sure the hitch attachment is cranked down tight to prevent wobbling, the hooks on the arms aren't the easiest to use, and you have to manually make sure that the rack is locked into place when you fold it up. That being said, once you get it working it's super-solid and works great. So, if you don't mind the tradeoff of needing to take a little more time to get it set up, it's a great value.

          Not impressed

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have had a few problems with my Transfer 2. The arms stick, the hooks stick when sliding up and down, and the hitch mount loosened up on my on a drive from Denver to Moab so much that the rack was able to touch my bumper. Do yourself a favor and buy a more expensive Kuat rack.

          Great minimalist option

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Kuat made its reputation for hitch racks with the high end, fully-featured NV rack. It is one of the best looking and most functional racks available on the market With the Transfer, they show that they are every bit as capable of making a great rack at a more affordable price. I chose the Transfer 2 over other options based on price, light weight, and capacity to carry bikes with tires up to 4.5 inches wide.

Assembly was easy, with the rack going together in less than an hour. All the tools needed to put the rack together were included in the box, along with and cloth bag to hold them. This bag went into the back of the car. I figure most of those bolts will want to be snugged down periodically to keep the rack from getting loose and wobbly.

Installation on the vehicle was equally simple. The Transfer 2 does not have the cam in the tongue the way Kuat'™s higher-priced racks do, so a threaded hitch pin is necessary to keep things locked down. I used the locking head from Kuat'™s locking hitch pin for some extra security.

The rack is easy to use and fairly low profile on my hatchback. Road bikes and regular mountain bikes with up to 29" wheels are easy to put on and take off, and seem don'™t move much on the short-to-medium trips I have taken. The rack is a little more temperamental with bigger wheels and tires. My 29+ bike with 3" tires fits, but the hook arm does not clear the front tire straight on. I have to tilt the bike to one side. My friend's fat bike with 4.8 inch tires (bigger that the recommended 4.5 inches) will fit if we take off the stopper bolt off the arm and remove the hook entirely. It seems like Kuat could have made this easier simply by making the hook arm about an inch longer.

Overall, I'm very happy with the utility, simplicity, and looks of the Kuat Transfer 2 rack.

          Great minimalist option

Thanks for this review! I have been looking for comments on this rack with fat bikes. I see that the phat extender strap says it can strap in up to 5". So you found the only limiting reagent for >4.5" was the hook arm? You had to take it off (with a screwdriver?) then put it back on over the top of the tire? It looks like the 4.8 sat in the plastic tire base ok..
