Floating Disc Rotor

Floating Disc Rotor

On long descents dropping thousands of vertical feet your brakes take a beating. In these conditions you quickly learn that not all rotors are created equal. Hope claims the Floating Disc Rotor resists warping even under severe heat from sustained braking. This is achieved using a floating design consisting of a CNC-machined aluminum carrier riveted to a laser-cut stainless steel outer rotor. When the outer rotor is subjected to serious heat it expands. By allowing it to float separately from the center carrier the rotor can expand and shrink at will without stressing the carrier, preventing permanent deformation.

The rotors come in five anodized color options, making them the perfect complement to your Hope brakes. Hope says they can be used with other brake brands, but you must check the clearance with your caliper once everything is installed, as the rivets sit about 1mm above the braking surface and you don't want them contacting your brake pads. Depending on your frame and fork mounting style as well as your desired rotor size, you may need a Hope disc brake adapter to correctly space your caliper.

A bit underwhelmed

I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:

First off - it's frustrating trying to find matching pairs in right colors + the correct sizes. The availability issue happens often regardless of online store. Having done XT and XTR rotors previously, I would place these particular Hope somewhere in between. They performed roughly close to XT but not as good as XTR. I had noticeable brake fade and they were very sensitive to any sort of contamination. Found myself having to clean them and check my pads often. Upgrading pads and calipers helped some.

Nice but...

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These look great but, according to LBS, they are made specifically for Hope brakes. Due to the prominence of the bolt that attaches the two pieces of the rotor, these rotors can rub on the actual brake body of many brakes, sram code in this case. This should probably be noted in the item description.
