This is the best there is?
My first bike computer, as I am new to cycling. I heard this is the best there is, so I bought it. So disappointing. Before, I tried using my cell phone, but battery life is short and the touchscreen acts up in the rain. On the phone, the apps like Ride with GPS are terrible in that displayed metrics are in tiny fonts. So, what's good about the Garmin is the touchscreen doesn't act up in the rain, the battery life is long, the displayed metrics can be big and hold, and layout can be customized, and it syncs to phone app easily. The bad: totally unintuitive. Using it for a month, I still can't figure out how to do most things. I started a training plan. If I fall behind a day, I try to do the missed workout. It seems to run but at the end does not save or give me credit for the workout. The screen is fine for text metrics, but trying to read a map on it is impossible. Sometimes on my rides it detects a climb ahead and starts CLIMB!! mode. Except the map is too tiny to read what turns I need to make to stay on the climbing route. I have no idea how to plan a route, so I have to figure out my routes on my own and just go ride and navigate on my own. This seems weird given the bike computer is supposed to work as a gps navigation device. I guess this will never happen because cycling is too small a niche, but I see an opportunity for either a better cycling phone app or a bike computer with a big beautiful 6"+ screen and intuitive controls. Until then , the Garmin 1040 is better than nothing.

Edge 1040
I really like the size of the screen and the touchscreen feature. The back button isn't always intuitive but it's much easier than buttons only.

device to help you understand your fitness better
I replace my Edge 1030 with 1040 month ago. There are some fitness data available now that were not in with Edge 1030. For me most important upgrade is battery life with Edge 1040 because you can really go for any long ride / without even thinking of losing battery power. It is also more responsive to connect with other Garmin devices.

Awesome bike computer
The display of the Edge 1040 is great, it's good to see in the sun, nice colors. The menu is easy to learn and navigate. Connecting sensors as well as 3rd party apps like Strava is very easy. So far I am very happy with the device.

Loved the UX, reliability, MTB Jumps and metrics!
I bought to replace a buggy computer from another brand and couldn’t be happier with the stability, easy of use, mount bar, UX, music control, and the fundamentals that’s reasonably accurate and this helpful. I do recommend it !!
