Many of us opt to ride glove-less during the summer months due to the natural dexterity, sensitivity to road feedback, and cool feeling that naked hands are able to provide. However, there are situations when gloves are a must. Both racing and long days over harsh roads are a couple of scenarios where the added support and coverage that gloves provide make all of the difference in how your day turns out. After all, time spent off the bike healing mangled palms is never worth the trade-off, which is why Assos designed its new summerGloves_s7.

The Summer Gloves are a refined version of the Assos' popular CYC gloves. They provide the signature level of quality, comfort, and durability that you've come to expect from Assos but, in typical Assos style, several updated design features have been incorporated. The airy mesh see-through padding is still present, although it's slightly denser and placed in more optimized locations to better soak up road chatter. Lightweight, stretchy back panels conform to your hands for a full range of motion, with mesh panels between the fingers providing breathability and a light, nonrestrictive fit. Closure is handled by a slip-fit cuff that follows the contour of the forearm at the underside of the wrist.

  • Flexible, stretchy slip-on cycling gloves for warm rides
  • Durable fabric allows for a full range of motion
  • Slip-on design makes for an easy on and off
  • Grippy palm locks onto your grips

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought the medium and they are tight but once on fit well and are comfortable. I like Assos gear because of quality and design and these gloves are exactly that.

    • Fit: True to size

I never paid much attention to my gloves before reading these reviews. All gloves I wore are OK, whether they expensive or cheap. But Assos gloves are way above others. I have 3 pairs of Assos gloves, 2 pairs for about 5 years, and they are just outstanding quality, fit and comfort. That being said, I bought them on sale, not sure if I would pay $70 for the pair of gloves. For Assos Summer S7 Gloves I paid $31.

I have used these 12 times. So far so good. I usually buy a large for gloves and I bought XL and they fit well. The opening is small so I just take care taking them on and off and I have no problems.

    bought a second pair

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had great luck with the Assos summer gloves. They are really really comfortable, fit is great all around, they are on the euro size chart, so a little smaller. Very cool in summer, great feel on the bars with or without tape, no slipping. I see some reviews where they stitching or material has torn, I would go for the warranty on those. Mine have held up great. I own two pair myself and another for a family member.

What is the best way to remove these “fit like a glove” gloves. I tore the seam (such small tear... one stitch but I heard it) first time removing. Assos actually replaced immediately.... but I don’t wa t a repeat

Hey Mike, Assos really needs reinstall the two little pull loops they had on their Prosline and first edition Summer Glove. I've had mine for 15+ years, they're torn-up, feel great and look like hell!

I just purchased the Specialized Grail... I hope they hold up.

    Where is that Assos quality?

I bought these gloves 3 months ago. They have completely worn out on the right hand. Is this that famous Assos quality? I will be returning these. Hopefully for a refund. I cannot hassle with getting a new pair of gloves every three months. I like the fit. If I only rode 1000 miles per year they would be fine. Otherwise, hard pass.

    Where is that Assos quality?

Simply the most comfortable gloves I own

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I wear things out, riding around 15-22K km per year. These Assos gloves tend to last me around six to nine months before wearing out at the top of the palm where friction is highest. I find them far and away the most comfortable gloves I own, if not the longest wearing. Other reviewers have commented that the gloves don't last long, but Assos strives for comfort and performance over longevity. If you want long lasting gloves, buy leather and knit gloves, which will last forever and will be quite comfortable. If you want gloves that feel incredibly good for long days on a bike, buy these.

I disagree that sizing is tricky on these gloves. I wear a medium in every glove I've ever tried, and these are no exception. Maybe I'm just average.

    Stitching came loose

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: xl

I'm a huge Assos fan and have a variety of their products. My philosophy on cycling gear is "Buy the best & only cry once".
But these gloves just didn't hold up. Two rides and the stitching in the palm is loose and the pad is coming out.
Maybe I just got a defective pair but just not the quality I'm use to from Assos.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

I normally wear a large but bought an XL and it fits perfectly. It has a nice stretch and padding is adequate and well placed. As with all my Assos gear it is top notch.

    Best so far

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've had over 20 pairs of gloves in 6 years. The problem with gloves is that you don't really know if they are right for you until you've ridden all the kinds of rides that you do—short, long, climbing, cool, sweltering hot. I really didn't like paying $69 for a pair of gloves, but I've had $29 and $49 gloves fall apart after a few rides. One after just one ride.

Fit: I wear XL gloves by other companies and these XL fit me quite nicely.
Velcro: None, and that is a good thing. I hate how velcro snags on everything, especially in the wash (yes, I fasten them). I hate how I sometimes forget to fasten them on a ride. Despite that, more than half the gloves I've owned have been harder to remove than these.
Quality: These are well made. After 10+ rides, nothing is worn out or coming apart.
Adornments: Unlike some other gloves, there are NO glued on features. Why any glove maker would put iron-on decorations on a glove is beyond me. They come off so quickly and look ratty.
Color: I like red, but most of my red gloves (and other clothing) fade to pink or orange in less than a year. Time will tell with these, but a friend has had his for 2 years and they still look good. That was the main reason I bit the bullet and got these.

I agree with your Velcro comments. Furthermore, they ruin long sleeve gear when they snag on sleeves, Fraying expensive gear is not cool.

Assos Quality seems to be going down...

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I owned this same pair of Assos gloves and they lasted 2 years with no problems. The second time I wore these new gloves the right glove stiching split.

    Fantastic build quality. Tricky fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I use Assos bibs; I have Assos jerseys; I even have a pair of Assos socks. So I guess it was only a matter of time before I bought the gloves.

I'm coming from a pair of Louis Garneau Mondo 2 gloves which I think are pretty decent gloves, but as soon as you take the Assos out of the bags, you can tell they're built better. The fabric throughout the gloves (including the upper) are denser and the padding, both in the upper and lower palm are thicker. Whereas most of the palm of the LG other than strategic areas (like the center of the palm) have only fabric, the Assos gloves used thicker material as well. If I am to fall off my bike, I think I'd rather do so in the Assos.

But once I tried on my normal size (medium), they were very tight and difficult to get both on and off my hands. Competitive Cyclist was nice enough to send me a pair of large the try on for size. But the large also didn't feel quite right and had a lot of excess material. Examining the gloves I figured out why these didn't fit.

As other mentioned these gloves didn't have Velcro enclosure. This required the gloves to be longer (sits lower on my wrist) as well as being tight in the wrist to stay in place. But this also meant that the gloves were both tight on my wrists as well as being more difficult to put and on remove. This is especially a problem since I don't (or at least think I don't) have thick wrists. The medium actually felt quite nice on the other parts of my hands (other than the tight wrists). For comparison's sake, the larges don't feel as tight in the wrist but are actually even more difficult to put on/remove due to them being longer therefore sits even lower on my wrists. Also for comparison, the LG Mondo 2's with the adjustment Velcro enclosure and shorter wrists are quite comfortable.

I think this is the reason why some people find these gloves true to fit while others find they fit small.

I'd like to give some non-scientific measurements. I measured all three pairs of gloves from the tip of the middle finger to the bottom, both the top of the hand and palm sides. The Assos mediums were 13cm from top of middle finger to the bottom on the top of hand side and 15cm (longer due to extra wrist protection) from top of middle finger to the bottom on the palm side. The Assos larges were 14/16cm. The LG's were 12/14cm. So my initial impression that the Assos sits lower on the wrists were correct.

I have not ridden in these as I won't be able to return the non-fitting pair if I used them. I think I'll keep the medium and return the large and might update this review once I've had a couple of rides in them. Overall though, as these are $69 gloves and Assos essentially never going on sale, I find the lack of Velcro enclosure and the resulted "poor fit" disappointing, although as I mentioned, they are very well made.

    Fantastic build quality. Tricky fit

Was going to post pictures of top of hand and palm of the medium, large and LG but it appears I can only post one picture in a review. Above was medium.

    Sizing Runs Small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

I've only bought Assos gloves and clothing for the past 15 years and the large size gloves always fit me perfectly. I just purchased this large pair and the fit is to small and they are really uncomfortable. Assos likely changed their fit dimensions. Perhaps consider buying up one size from your normal size.

Sure, Assos change they sizing just for you.

    The perfect cycle glove.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Love the fit, lack of separate velcro closure and the materials. Made in Italy (not China) too is a plus.

    Superb gloves !

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Bought these to replace a pair of well worn Specialized BG gloves. At first I was skeptical that they would fit right and work without some type of adjustable closure. But after riding with them for the past couple of weeks I love 'em, and tossed the old BG gloves.

On first ride they seemed loose and sloppy, and my hand would move around inside the glove while riding. I thought maybe this was the price of not having an adjustable closure. But after two rides that initial sloppiness disappeared, and now they fit just like a ...oh wait ... well, they fit perfectly and stay in place as a glove should.

They are really well ventilated, with the fabric under the padding across the palm being an open weave mesh, and fabric on the back being a thin stretch fabric like a Spandex. The padding is rather amazing - very absorptive without the usual thickness or bulk, and in the right places. This leads to improved road feel over the BG gloves, with plenty of shock absorption.

Update 12/29/16 - first pair still going strong after ~7 months / 2,500 miles of use, all of that in the TX Gulf region (think super humid and hot).

    These are perfect

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I went by the sizing chart and these fit correctly. At first I thought they were to small but tried them on a few times and left one on while doing some computer work. They are snug but riding with them is great. Padding good and of course........they look way cool and Made In Italy ( on the tag!)

Nice gloves - Like tissues on your hands

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

I wore these gloves to ride the Gran Fondo New York - a 100 mile ride. The fit was perfect. I sized up from the actual measurements of my hands. There is a generous amount of soft fabric to wipe the runny nose of cycling with no irritating seams to rub against the nose. My only issue is the lack of significant padding. I will not wear these again for a ride of this length but they will be perfect for rides of one or two hours.

Nice gloves - Like tissues on your hands

    Great gloves!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Perfect fit. I wear an XL. Pads are perfect just thick enough for 100mi rides yet provide great bar feel. These gloves are well designed to fit without needing a velcro closure. I love the no velcro since velcro always comes open or catches on LS jerseys and jackets. Pull tabs in just the right spot for getting the gloves off- which does, and should take some effort if the gloves fit correctly. I've had these for about 8000 miles and while a bit faded they have not torn.

    Great gloves

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've got large hands and the XLGs are a perfect fit. The padding is good enough for mountain biking. These are essential on hot days!
