Warmest gloves I own

- Runs small
- Size Bought
- 5` 10"
- 172 lbs
These work for me down to at least 26F (according to the temp readout on my Garmin) without resorting to liners. The Ultraz are roughly 5F warmer than my Castelli Extremos, which need liners below 30F. To ride in low 20's and below, I'd have to give up some dexterity and use mittens. Sizing was a compromise. Like Paul K., I'm between L and XL. According to Assos's fit measurements, my palm is an L, but I have long fingers. So I went with XL to keep my fingers from jamming into the ends of the gloves' fingers, which results in cold fingers. But with the XL's I have excess material in the palm area. In all my other gloves I wear an L. One complaint: for nose-wiping, Assos provides only a measly 1cm x 10cm strip of brushed material on each forefinger. Castelli gets it right: the Estremos have a strip on each forefinger, and another on each thumb plus most of the base of the thumb.

- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
After determining that the Assosoires Winter Gloves couldn't cut it for me below the mid-40's, I tried these... and they're terrific. No glove will solve for poor position on the bike (that puts too much pressure on the hands) or for clothing not suited to the temps. So assuming you've got those things buttoned up, these gloves should take you comfortably down into the 30's. Only issue I have is that I straddle the recommended sizing between L and XL. I opted for XL, thinking a little extra space inside might help with the insulating properties. But I would have liked to get into the L; as some have said, tighter gloves make you feel like you can go faster ;-) (Ha!) I just hope they don't somehow stretch out over time.
