locked up

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

had an old ski rack laying around and the locks were not working so I bought a new set. Had a difficult time removing the old cores but one I did the new ones went in perfectly.

Work Well With Yakima Racks

Unfortunately these things are sold separate and they are nice to have for your average thief who may be running around looking for bike racks that are easy to steal. That being said they aren't going to stop someone who really wants to get after your bike. Not that Yakima can help that, no one can, but don't use these as a total fail safe. For the more part, they're great though. Easy to install, easy to use.

    perfect for Frontloader bike rack

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

They work well and took less then two minutes to install onto my Frontloader bike rack.

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

It's always nice to know that you have the added assurance you bike will be safely secure for that after downhill beer you're wanting to enjoy. Here they are installed on:

    Nice locks

I have these with the Yakima WB300 Rooftop Ski & Snowboard Carrier and they work great. It is nice to have the extra reassurance that your gear is secure!

    Safe and secure

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The locks serve their purpose well. Hold up under weather (had mine in Seattle for 4 years and they still open no problem) and keep things where they should be - on your car.

Do the locks come with the 'control key'...

Do the locks come with the 'control key' for installation and removal of the cores?

Yes they come with the blank used to pull and install the cores.

    Sense of Security

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have a Yakima Frontloader rack on my car. The ease of installation make me worry slightly about how easy it would be to steal. Purchasing and installing the SKS lock cores made me feel just that much more secure about my investment. To me they are totally worth the cost.

    So far, so good..

Haven't had them long enough to comment on durability. Initially hesitated to purchase because of the added expense ($35), but now glad I did because the added deterrent provides peace of mind.

Write your question here...How do you...

Write your question here...How do you replace these cores in a Yakima cable lock for a car-top bike carrier?

There should be a middle point on the locks between lock and unlock. Turn the key to this point and the core should come out as well.

do these work with yakima hully rollers?

do these work with yakima hully rollers?

No they don't. You will need to get the Boat Locker to secure boats to the rack. Currently there isn't a way to use SKS locks to lock the Hully Rollers to the cross bars. Again, the Boat Locker can be used to secure them to the rack system.

      good idea

it is a good to have a core system where you are able to buy more cores that mach up with the key you already have. I have had durability issues with them though. 2 out of the six that i have for my ski/bike rack just wont turn and thats only after a couple years of hard use.

I had a similar issue - one of my lock cores has stopped turning. Glad I could buy replacement cores without having to replace the lock.
