The founders of Wolf Tooth Components in Minneapolis got started with the goal of shaking up the componentry offerings on the market currently using their shared engineering and manufacturing backgrounds. Small parts like the RoadLink define that mission pretty well; the oblong aluminum and steel bit was created specifically to offset the position of a rear derailleur to make space for a wider one-by mountain bike cassette.

No, the RoadLink doesn't aim to displace all order in favor of cobbled together Franken-bikes. It only works with road derailleurs, but 9-, 10-, and 11-speed one-by or double drivetrains from the major players are all fair game in terms of compatibility. Whether you want a wider gear range on your racing bike for the upcoming 'cross season or are seeking simplicity for your gravel adventure bike with a few extra granny gears, the RoadLink brings two opposing sides together to result in a win for everyone.

I currently am running the SRAM 1170 11-32 cassette with complete SRAM Force 22 drivetrain and 50/34 chainrings.
Is it possible to run the 1170 11-36 cassette with the addition of the Wolftooth RoadLink?

Hey Anthony, sounds like it will be exceeding the capacity of the Sram Force 22 medium cage derailleur. You may be able to get away with it if running smaller front chain rings, but with your current gearing, it'd be pushing it beyond what its able to do. Anthony, did you try this and how did it work? I have the exact same setup and was looking at running it with a 36t SRAM cassette or a 40t Shimano XT cassette with the help of the Wolf tooth road link. The wolf tooth website talks about calculating your derailleur capacity but I couldn’t find the derailleur capacity numbers listed for SRAM Derailleurs, so I called wolf tooth. They told me the force wifli rear derailleur is at capacity with a 50/34 up front and an 11/32 in the back. They do not recommend any larger. By lengthening the chain to accommodate a larger cassette (and therefore more derailleur capacity), the shifting performance of the small small combinations will suffer.

Makes a 11-40 cassette work W/ 1x Crank

I was looking to drop the front derailleur on my beater CX/Gravel/Commuter Diamondback Haanjo trail and realized I could make my current Ultegra 11sp rear derailleur work with this Roadlink.



For the record, my drivetrain previously was a FSA 2x crankset, an Ultegra front and rear (medium cage I think) derailleur, and a 11-32 cassette. I went to the Rival 1 crankset, an SLX 11-40 cassette (Item #SHI00C1), and a Wolftooth Roadlink (Item #WFC0006). I'm running it with a Sram 11sp chain and it works flawlessly. I do wish the Ultegra derailleur had a clutch to keep chainslap down a bit on rougher CX terrain, but the shifting itself works flawlessly with the Wolftooth Roadlink.

Works well with an 11-40

    I swapped the original 11-28 with an 11-40 and have turned my Jake into a more capable hill climber. No issues even at the small end of the cluster.

    I run this with ultegra di2, rotor 50/34 oval chain rings, and a sram 11-36 road cassette. It works perfect in every way . But...

    If you run enough chain to go big/big, it loses tension for the smallest 3 gears in the 34. Keeping tension on the b-screw helps this. The best way to run it would be with a 46 or 48 big chainring and shorten the chain. Even better, but I don't know if this is possible, would be to program the di2 so it doesn't shift to big/big.

    I have a steep hill to my house that I lovingly call Ruinit hill, cause no matter how good your ride was, paperboying up this hill ruins it. Now with the 36t, not a problem. Glad to see this at Competitive.
