Bar Tape Grip Gel
Long renowned for providing comfortable saddles, Selle SMP is entering into another touch point territory that’s sure to bring comfort there as well, handlebar tape. Its Bar Tape Grip Gel is a 3mm thick, High-Performance Polymer tape with a layer of gel underneath that provides plenty of vibration absorption over rougher roads and gravel. Additionally, the micro-perforated pattern offers excellent breathability and grip and works well with or without gloves on and provides an excellent handhold, even in the rain.
Selle SMP's made in Italy Bar Tape Grip Gel is the perfect addition to any bike, especially if it has an SMP saddle on it, and comes with tri-color bar end plugs, extra strips for behind the levers, and finishing tape and is available in the colors Black and White.

Very happy with purchase
- Familiarity:

Ok, so I went back into my order history to figure out exactly when I bought this...Nov 2020. It was on major discount so like another reviewer I decided to give the expensive bar tape a shot. I installed it myself and it went on very easily and had no issues. It never ripped, but I was careful putting it on. It has great padding and the grip is superb. My hands sweat a lot in the Texas heat and these things keep their grip even with soaking wet hands/gloves. It is now Jan 2023, and the same pair is still on my bike after nearly 10k miles. They are definitely showing wear, but the padding is still second to none and the grip is still there. I don't anticipate changing them out any time soon. Just wanted to come back and throw in a review since most items are not reviewed after the first few months. I love them and would purchase them again in a heartbeat!

Works for me

I've used Fizik for years but for $19, decided to try the Selle tape. It wrapped just fine and feels great to ride on. I've ridden over 3K miles on the tape and will order another couple rolls for my next 3K miles.

Beautiful, but ripped
- Familiarity:

Ripped right at the shifter/ brake lever junction while wrapping the bars of my Merlin Empire. Well, it would have looked nice. But, it was just 20 bucks so I just told the mechanic to chuck it and use Black Shimano Pro tape.

Garbage

The bar tape ripped as I was applying it, and I wasn't even stretching it that much. Feels very plastic, too.

Quality is not on par

Firstly, the tape is rolled in a tight wad and stored in the packaging. The back of the tape has mild adhesive on it, and upon rolling out the wad of tape; some of the adhesive pulled part of the front of the tape from its base layer and pretty much ripped the tape from the get-go. This tape is not durable or rip proof compared to other's that I have used. Firstly, it is not well made due to the the fact that the front of the tape pretty much delaminated while being unrolled. Secondly, the tape did indeed rip upon applying mild pressure (which is required to wrap your bars). I would totally return or exchange this tape if I could; however, seeing as how it ripped right out of package, I don't think that is possible. Selle, please stick to saddles. Do not recommend this bar tape.

Great Tape

I saw it marked way down and snagged the black tape thinking let's see what $50 bartape is like. It's awesome. It has been a great experience from the packaging to the road. I was happy to see they leave the annoying paper strip on the adhesive out. Those things are the worst. It has a relatively thick and smushy feel and it has the best stretchiness I've ever encountered when wrapping. Other brands are thick and plush, but have a separate surface that can wrinkle and eventually peel like a lizard's skin. This stuff is one ultra-fine substance all the way through. It's rubbery but not too tacky. I might prefer a touch more grip but it's fine. I'm impressed.
