Warm up.

When the mornings turn brisk, the trees start to show off their colors, and fat bike season approaches, it's time to start thinking about finding a helmet that will keep you warmer than the super-vented summer fare. Giro's Timberwolf Helmet is designed with chilly temperatures in mind and borrows inspiration from snow helmet profiles to add a dose of cozy comfort to your cold weather rides.

The Timberwolf's Thermostat Control ventilation system lets you easily adjust how much air gets through to maintain your microclimate, while a brushed fleece liner and removable ear pads provide much appreciated warmth and protection from the elements. The Timberwolf features Giro's In Form Fit system, which utilizes a quick-turning dial for up to six centimeters of fit adjustment and a vertical turning option that lets you adjust fore-aft positioning, even on the fly.

  • A cold-weather helmet for commuting and fat bikepacking
  • In-mold construction increases structural integrity
  • Brushed fleece lining and removable ear pads provide warmth
  • Adjustable ventilation tailors airflow to the weather
  • Front Stack Ventilation reduces goggle fogging
  • Ages 5 and older

How to Measure:
For best results, use a tape measure to measure around your head where your hat would fit comfortably.

What do you think about this product?

Two questions: 1) How cold can it be? In -20F would it still keep you warm enough? 2) Is there a way to attach a headlamp to it? I bike to work in the cold and dark and could use extra light. Thanks, Steve

Hey Steve, Great question. While this helmet is made for cold temps, -20F and a cold breeze might require this helmet to be worn with an extra light beanie like the one linked at the bottom here. As far as lighting goes, Giro makes some red rear lights that can plug into the helmet vents, and we sell a few other helmet light mounting options that I'll link below. Designed primarily for skiers, but happy

I've used it several times

Very good quality, good fit. Keeps the melon warm in sub-zero temperatures. I commute 30 miles in Wyoming to my job and typically that's close to a couple hours in 20 degree temps. I have a 23 and 1/2 inch head and went with the large. Happy with my choice as I can still sneak a balaclava beneath it. And yet there's no movement without the extra layer. if you are only used to cycling helmets this does add a bit of unexpected weight. But with that comes a little extra feeling of security and safety. My only knocks on it are that at the temperatures you would want it you'll likely be wearing ski goggles. Good news: The helmet was designed to be used with ski goggles as there's a clip for the strap in the back and channels on the sides. However if your head is down and you're looking up at the road the goggle/helmet combination will probably interfere with a little bit of your vision. As with most winter cycling situations you're probably a bit more upright anyway so it may not be an issue for you. Secondly as you're craning your neck the adjustable helmet strap in the back can put a slight bit of pressure on your neck. While that's not a deal-breaker it's obvious that the helmet comes from the ski industry where neck craning is not part of the game. Overall: Glad I added this to my winter kit.

Thanks for the thoughtful and detailed review.

This helmet is super comfy on my bald head. Fit is great and the closable vent is a nice touch for cold weather. Can be used for road, mountain or winter sports. Very versatile.

if I were to use this helmet in some warmer weather would it be uncomfortable?
