What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"After years of relying on string lines and taped-off reference marks, switching to the Fit Kit was a genuine upgrade. The magnetic bullets seat cleanly in the Shimano preload cap and give me a consistent bottom bracket center to measure from, which is something that sounds simple but makes a huge difference in accuracy at the saddle end of the tape. I have used it on everything from a full fit session in the shop to a quick position check after a race build, and it handles both equally well. For anyone working on multiple bikes or reassembling frequently, the repeatability this thing offers is worth it immediately."
For riders with a precise, dialed position, even a single millimeter of deviation from their established saddle height can introduce enough biomechanical change to affect power output or cause discomfort over a long effort. The Abbey Bike Tools Fit Kit was designed specifically to eliminate that uncertainty, giving fitters, mechanics, and traveling athletes a fully repeatable measurement system that does not rely on memory, tape marks, or educated guessing.
At the foundation of the kit is the saddle plate, a precision-machined tool with two fixed reference points that always locate measurement to the same spot relative to the nose of the saddle. This repeatability is the real value: it removes the ambiguity inherent in pulling a tape to an unmarked surface and gives you millimeter-level confidence in your recorded position. The engraved metric ruler on the front of the plate allows setback to be calculated from the side of the bike, clearing any bottle cage interference that would otherwise force a plumb bob toward the centerline. Saddle angle adjustment is equally well served by the wide plate surface, which provides ample room for a level, digital protractor, or smartphone running an angle measurement app, a critical feature for athletes using saddles with non-traditional profiles like SMP or Adamo where slight angular shifts have meaningful effects on contact pressure.
The magnetic saddle height bullets are what make the bottom bracket measurement side of the system reliable. Available in 8mm and 10mm sizes, they locate precisely in the Shimano crank arm fixing bolt or preload cap, establishing a true center at the bottom bracket without any guesswork about where to anchor the tape. This is the kind of detail that separates a professional-grade fit tool from a workaround, and it shows in the consistency of results across different builds or different days. The complete kit includes the saddle plate, both bullet sizes, and the Shimano preload crank tool, covering the full workflow from bottom bracket reference to nose-of-saddle measurement in one compact package built to last a career. Made in Bend, Oregon.
