Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Road Wheel $1,150.00
Tested and proven on the grueling cobbles of Roubaix and Flanders, the Zipp 303 carries the renowned distinction of being the first carbon wheelset to win those venerable classics. Updated with new hubs for 2016, the Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Road will add speedy, bombproof versatility to any road race or ride.
The 303 Firecrest features a 45mm rim depth that provides aerodynamic advantages while maintaining solid handling in crosswinds for a smooth, stress-free experience even on windy days. A wide, 26.4mm brake track gives the tire a wider, solid stance that decreases rolling resistance and increases stability by reducing the side bulge effect found in tires mounted to narrower rims. You'll fly down the road with confidence that these wheels will jump into action for a sprint and corner on rails to drop the competition, all while providing a solid, comfortable ride along the way.
While Zipp built these wheels to excel on everything from pancake flat valley roads to big mountain passes, it also paid attention to the aerodynamics. An updated version of Zipp's signature Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control (ABLC) dimpling features strategically placed and sized dimples across the rim surface to smooth airflow, allowing the wheel to slice deftly through the air. ABLC boasts aerodynamic advantages at real-world wind angles, giving it an advantage over many wheels that experience minimum drag numbers at wind angles that rarely occur outside of a wind tunnel. In a nutshell, these wheels will handle the windy conditions you'll run into out on the road better than most of the competition.
In the middle of the 303, Zipp uses its updated 77/177 hubset, which enjoys improved stiffness and durability over its predecessor for a more responsive, stable ride. Featuring a new platform and graphics for 2016, these hubs boast increased bearing protection over previous versions and are ready to roll without any pre-load adjustment. The rear hub is compatible with a separately sold XD driver body, opening up options for a larger cassette range like SRAM's 10-42t option. The driver bodies can be swapped out without having to re-dish the wheel, making it easier to get back out on the road. Each wheel includes Zipp's new quick release skewer with a widened handle for better leverage when installing and a more streamlined look when closed.
The Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Road Wheel comes with a set of Tangente Platinum Pro Evo brake pads, a Zipp Integrated Valve Extender with valve-core wrench, rim tape, and a quick release skewer. The rear wheel is available with either a Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo 11-speed compatible freehub body. Please note that the Tangente Platinum Pro Evo brake pads are designed specifically for use with Zipp's carbon rims. Zipp also recommends a maximum rider weight of 250lb for these wheels.

Incredible wheels for the price
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This is my first upgrade into carbon wheels. The 303s are super fast, may even be 2 mph faster than stock wheels, climb very well and above all you get all day comfort. They are 45mm deep, cross wind is not an issue. Replacing tubes is a breeze. You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck. Competitive Cyclist matches price so I got them for less than retail.
Is it worth upgrading to 454 for more than twice what I paid? that is entirely your call. Keep in mind that the 303 will climb and handle crosswind better.
Bottom line, I couldn't be more pleased with those wheels.

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
By far the lightest, most rigid, and high quality wheels I have ever had. I usually buy Mavic, but made an exception, and am glad that I did. Hubs are also very high quality, and I am very pleased with this purchase.
