With a couple of these and a few 2" x 6"s, you can make a great truck bed bike rack! Once fastened down to a solid object these are great mounts that will keep you bikes in place. Put many miles on these in two different trucks, both with homemade blocks. If you own a truck, these are a great solution to travel safely with bikes.
Depending on you budget, the blockhead bike mount w/o the core and a wire bike lock work nicely, but these just add an extra sense of security since they can't be undone with a pair of heavy-duty wire cutters. I've used both but definitely feel more comfortable with my bike fork locked in.
How could this work with a pop up camper...
How could this work with a pop up camper with receiving tracks? I'm looking for a way to transport bikes on the pop up roof. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I have the regular block mount on my jeeps rack. I drilled two holes through the rack and have the mount attached with two bolts. I then attach the back tire to the back rack with a cam strap. Super quick and easy. As long as you're willing to drill some holes into the top of your camper, you'd be able to attach the mount. You'd just have to figure out a way to keep the rear tire tied down.
This is a perfect mount for what I needed, had a hard time finding a mount that will fit the Nissan Xterra Bars, although there are some out there, I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I bolted this directly to the xterra bars and it works great, I secured the back tire with a small strap and its bomb proof. This would make a great mount for any truck bed or whatever else you can think of. Although no lock is fully theft proof, this lock is still very secure and would be tough to remove.
Super burly for a QR style fork mount.. No body will mess with this locking style moount in the back of your truck.
The realcyclist.com Pro Cycling Team travels alot to attend many races all over the US. A bike mount has to be durable and, even more important, reliable.
All I can tell that this Yakima Blockhead bike mount never let us down during many miles on the road. Even a dust storm in the New Mexican desert cannot beat the Yakima Locking Blockhead Bike Mount.
This simple design will allow you to make your own rack system for your bike. I bolted these directly to the panels of my Chevy Avalanche. They are super strong, hold up to weather and most importantly lock.
I read the comment below about being able to remove the other side with pliers...although I have not tried it, I cannot imagine being able to remove it with ease. Let's face it, given enough time and the right tools, no lock is safe.
Locking Blockhead Mount
Well made, just like all Yakima products. Only complaint is the locking mechanism. It only locks the release lever. The other end of the skewer could easily be removed with some pliers. It is better than no lock, but more theft resistance would be a plus. I think If I got them again I would save the 10.00 and get non locking and a good cable and lock.
