TYR designed the Hurricane Cat3 Wetsuit as the gateway between entry- and pro-level fullsuits. As such, it's the least expensive suit in the California manufacturer's line to be entirely made of 5mm 38 Cell Nano SCS (Super Composite Skin) neoprene from the Japanese giant, Yamamoto. The Cats 1 and 2 only get this treatment in certain areas, but the Cat3 enjoys the lower drag and increased buoyancy across its entire construction.
The Cat3 catches upgrade fever in a few other key areas, including elevation panels situated around the torso that provide a buoyancy boost beyond what's offered in the Cats 1 and 2, though their real mission is to help maintain the most efficient body position for swimming by pulling you up at the obliques, chest, and core. The Cat3's final upgrades are the Alpha Catch Panels inserted on the forearms. These little grabbers catch water during your stroke and release it at the end, so the Cat3 is actually helping to pull you through the water.
Other than that, the Cat3 enjoys features similar to those of the Cat2. This includes the indispensible 360° Core Stabilization System, which uses five panels to provide compressive support to your key muscle groups to reduce long-term fatigue, improve blood circulation, and further promote optimal posture in the water. It also adds an additional element of buoyancy so you can focus on moving forward, not staying afloat.
Like its sister offerings, the Cat3's shoulders incorporate TYR's Free R.O.M. (Range of Motion) Zone design, which eliminates restriction in the shoulder for long-reaching swimming motions. The wrist and ankle cuffs are also the same as the rest of TYR's fullsuits. The wrist cuffs are designed to stretch in multiple directions, so they're unrestrictive but still prevent flushing throughout your stroke. When you get to T1, the ankle cuffs are tapered to catch your shins, allowing the wetsuit to peel inside-out for quick removal.
