What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"The block-in-block transition knobs are doing real work here — I noticed it most when I was railing berms on a wet, rooted trail where the transition between center and shoulder knobs felt seamless. The casing stiffness kept the tire from squirming under load. Solid construction for aggressive trail riding in the wet."
The Specialized Hillbilly Grid Trail T9 TLR Tire was purpose-built for technical trail conditions that punish tires with insufficient grip and weak casing — specifically the loose, wet, and steep terrain common to the Pacific Northwest and continental riding zones. The tread pattern opens up aggressively with deep spike center knobs and high-volume shoulder blocks that work in tandem to keep the tire biting through loam, gripping rock, and holding line through off-camber sections when the trail surface becomes unpredictable.
Traction performance is driven by the damping-forward compound formulation, which resists bounce and deflection on chunky, rooted terrain. Rather than rebounding off obstacles, the compound absorbs impact and maintains contact, allowing the knobs to do their job continuously rather than skipping across the surface. Block-in-block transition knobs reinforce the structural connection between center and shoulder tread, which becomes critical when loading the tire hard through corners or compressing into jump faces. The GRID Trail casing adds a bead-to-bead protection layer that increases sidewall stiffness and puncture resistance without the weight penalty of a gravity-specific build — a meaningful advantage for all-day trail riding where rotating mass matters.
The Hillbilly Grid Trail T9 TLR sets up tubeless-ready out of the box, accepting sealant for a standard clincher tubeless setup. The 60 TPI casing is rated for 25–50 psi across both the 27.5 x 2.4 and 29 x 2.4 sizes, covering trail, all-mountain, and aggressive enduro terrain. Riders looking for even more burly casing protection can step up to the Grid Gravity version; for those who want to keep weight down on less demanding terrain, the 2Bliss Ready version runs lighter. The Grid Trail is the call for riders who encounter consistently gnarly conditions and want a tire that holds up across a full season of hard riding.
