Block-in-block tread with maximum rubber contact for grip in all conditions
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"Where the Eliminator Grid Gravity splits compounds to balance rolling resistance and grip, the Butcher Grid Gravity commits fully to traction. T9 compound runs across the entire tread—center and shoulder—so there's no transition point where grip drops off as the tire transitions from upright to leaned. The block-in-block architecture is a meaningful tread design upgrade: larger blocks increase the rubber-to-ground contact patch by 12%, which translates directly to braking and cornering stability on loose and intermediate terrain."
Front tires operate under a different set of demands than rear tires. Rolling resistance matters less up front; what matters is traction under braking, stability at lean angle through corners, and casing integrity across repeated high-load impacts. The Butcher Grid Gravity T9 TLR from Specialized is engineered around those priorities, making no concession to rolling efficiency in exchange for grip performance across wide-spectrum enduro conditions.
The compound is GRIPTON T9 across the full tread—center knobs and shoulder knobs alike. Unlike dual-compound designs that apply harder rubber to the center tread to reduce rolling resistance, the Butcher runs consistent T9 throughout, ensuring that braking traction in the upright position is as reliable as cornering traction at maximum lean. The 60TPI Grid Gravity casing is a 2-ply construction built for aggressive riding conditions. The dual-ply sidewall resists the lateral deformation that occurs under hard cornering loads on rocky terrain and provides meaningful protection against square-edge impacts and pinch flats—failure modes that single-ply casings are disproportionately vulnerable to at enduro riding intensities. The tubeless-ready bead seats consistently and seals reliably with standard sealant volumes. Specialized co-developed the Butcher with Roval Traverse SL and Traverse HD wheels, where FlatStop bead technology provides additional pinch-flat resistance at the bead-rim interface.
