Shift into a higher gear.

When you're blasting down the trail, looking ahead at the line you're about to step through, the last thing you want to hear is a dreaded rattling chain that's trying, and failing, to keep up. Whether you're building up a brand new dream machine or replacing a chain that has seen better days, Shimano's XTR/Dura-Ace CN-HG901 11-Speed Chain represents the best you can get among Shimano's line, which is appropriate, as it's designed to be used with the brand's pro-level XTR and Dura-Ace drive trains.

New for this year, chains with the 01 appellation received a new outer plate profile design that enables them to be used on E-bikes and in single-speed applications. With the new out plate, the chain is no longer susceptible to separations when being used in those applications, so it's now equipped to withstand greater torque created by E-bikes.

Like its predecessors, the HG901 features a slight asymmetry to allow it pair perfectly with Shimano's 9000-series drivetrain for smooth gear shifts and excellent power transfer. With Shimano's groundbreaking SIL-TEC low friction treatment, this chain glides through the cogs with minimal friction, so you can focus on the smooth climb, rock-lined singletrack, or bike lane ahead with a chain you can depend on.

  • The chain featured on pro bikes from trail to road
  • Compatible with Shimano's top 11-speed drivetrains
  • SIL-TEC low-friction treatment
  • Asymmetrical, uni-directional design
  • Reinforced to work with E-bikes

Shimano Rides True

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been an avid Shimano fan for years and I am stoked to finally make the jump to to Dura-Ace. I am running this chain with a Dura-Ace cassette and Ultegra crank. The chain is responsive and the shifting is smooth!

I'm a big fan of Shimano's products. I started with 105, went to Ultegra and have upgraded to the latest Dura Ace. Just like with all the other remarkable enhancements between the Ultegra and Dura Ace, the chain is every bit the same - perfect. It's lighter and seems to aid in even smoother shifting. It's designed to turn in one direction so follow the instructions so you can experience the benefits of Shimano's shapely little engineering features that make this chain perform the way it should. I'm very happy with it.

    Great Chain

I had to take out a few links to put this on my commuter, but she is running much smoother and quieter now. Shifting is snappy. I am very pleased.

    No Brainer

Ultegra chains are another great place to save money without sacrificing performance if you're running 11-speed. Spare the vanity, and save a little coin in the process.

      Great Chain

When I'm riding my bike, I don't want to be thinking about the bike. I want to enjoy the ride. Rough drive trains can suck quite a bit of enjoyment out of the ride for you and your companions. A good chain is at the heart of the drivetrain and this chain does great! keep it lubed and clean and you won't have to worry about it until you replace it. make sure you follow the install instructions to avoid any issues on the trail.

      Solid Performer

I've had about a half dozen rides so far on my complete XT 1X11 set up, on mixed single-track, moderate downhill and serious climbs. So far I love it! I know it's not as light as the SRAM drivetrains, but the cost and simplicity of the drivetrain swap pays big time. No dropped chains, no mis-shifts. I'm really loving it. Coming from a 3X or 2X set up, I don't have the top-end road speed, but who cares! If you're thinking about upgrading, do it.
