Shift into a higher gear.

When you're blasting down the trail, looking ahead at the line you're about to step through, the last thing you want to hear is a dreaded rattling chain that's trying, and failing, to keep up. Whether you're building up a brand new dream machine or replacing a chain that has seen better days, Shimano's XTR/Dura-Ace CN-HG901 11-Speed Chain represents the best you can get among Shimano's line, which is appropriate, as it's designed to be used with the brand's pro-level XTR and Dura-Ace drive trains.

New for this year, chains with the 01 appellation received a new outer plate profile design that enables them to be used on E-bikes and in single-speed applications. With the new out plate, the chain is no longer susceptible to separations when being used in those applications, so it's now equipped to withstand greater torque created by E-bikes.

Like its predecessors, the HG901 features a slight asymmetry to allow it pair perfectly with Shimano's 9000-series drivetrain for smooth gear shifts and excellent power transfer. With Shimano's groundbreaking SIL-TEC low friction treatment, this chain glides through the cogs with minimal friction, so you can focus on the smooth climb, rock-lined singletrack, or bike lane ahead with a chain you can depend on.

  • The chain featured on pro bikes from trail to road
  • Compatible with Shimano's top 11-speed drivetrains
  • SIL-TEC low-friction treatment
  • Asymmetrical, uni-directional design
  • Reinforced to work with E-bikes

Shimano quality

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've run Shimano chains for years, and the Dura-Ace/XTR chain lives up to the legendary quality of Shimano. If you're looking for smooth and crisp shifting, this is great place to start.

I ordered one of this a month ago and got my chain with a pin to connect it. Recently ordered it again an I got it with a quick connect why is that do you get a choice between a quick connect or pin?

Hi Guadalupe,

I've heard they are moving to the quick link, but didn't know they went that way yet. Honestly the quick is better than the pin.

Great chain, smooth ride

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

always use Ultegra, just change to Durace chain, feels smoother, more responsive, all and all great chain, ZERO ISSUES so far and I really like to crank it up!

Cheaper than DA9000 11spd chain

I've yet to use the chain, but I bought 2 chains for my road bike because they are cheaper than DA9000 11spd chain. Since the chain is also good for DA9000 groupset, I'm sure there will be no problems.

    No Issues

A good chain is one that you shouldnt notice, and this XTR chain is just that. Never had an issue with a broken chain or anything else, and wears very well compared to some other brands and drivetrains.

      Shimano Rides True

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been an avid Shimano fan for years and I am stoked to finally make the jump to to Dura-Ace. I am running this chain with a Dura-Ace cassette and Ultegra crank. The chain is responsive and the shifting is smooth!

      My go-to!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This chain is light, strong, smooth, and reliable. It withstands the wattage and maintains its smooth, quite properties.

      Excellent

I'm a big fan of Shimano's products. I started with 105, went to Ultegra and have upgraded to the latest Dura Ace. Just like with all the other remarkable enhancements between the Ultegra and Dura Ace, the chain is every bit the same - perfect. It's lighter and seems to aid in even smoother shifting. It's designed to turn in one direction so follow the instructions so you can experience the benefits of Shimano's shapely little engineering features that make this chain perform the way it should. I'm very happy with it.

        Awesome

What can you say about a chain?

XTR, what else can I say....works great. Paired with an XTR 1x drivetrain.

        Great Chain

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had to take out a few links to put this on my commuter, but she is running much smoother and quieter now. Shifting is snappy. I am very pleased.
