Description

An aggressive hybrid.

If you're lucky enough to be stocking up on gear for your next bikepacking trip or tour, Shimano's SH-MX9 Bike Shoes make a strong case as the shoes you should take along with you on your adventures. Shimano constructs the SH-MX9 with a durable nubuck leather upper, backed by a reinforced rubber toe box and padded ankle cuff reminiscent of your most rugged pair of hiking shoes to withstand all of the rocks and trail debris you're likely to encounter.

Inside, Gore-Tex's breathable Performance Comfort lining means your feet stay completely dry while you're wearing the shoes in rainy or muddy trail conditions. Shimano adds EVA foam to the midsole to provide some shock-absorption as you're hiking or breaking down camp, while a half-length plate with a stiffness of three out of 12 on Shimano's stiffness scale accommodates two-bolt mountain cleats, lending the shoes their distinction as part hiking boot, part mountain bike shoe. Finally, the lugged Vibram outsole works to give you ample traction and stability as you walk with your bike along on aggressive trails.

My favorite commuting upgrade ever

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 43

I bought these in December after my first few rides in Salt Lake's slush and snow on my commuter bike. I wore my Shimano MTB race shoes with shoe covers and they were awful and freezing. I bought these and have had them completely covered in snow and slush for months and my feet are always warm and dry. I've never once had wet feet from slush.

Fit wise, they're true to size. I ordered a 43, same size as my race shoes, and the toe box has way more room than the race shoes. They feel a little loose in thin cycling socks. In thicker cotton or cotton/wool socks they're amazing.

When I dress a little more business casually, I wear these around the office. I've also just kept them on for yard work. Great boot for whatever! I love walking in these. I take the train to work so having something comfortable to walk around in, whether on pavement or snow & ice, these are fantastic.

Outside of fenders and lights, these make my daily commute amazing. Now that it's getting into the 70s, these aren't hot by any means, but I'm getting a vented shoe that still has a flexible sole.

A Bike Shoe to Conquer the Elements

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

Fantastic shoe for all those all day backcountry epics that include a fair amount of hike-a-bike! Feels like a proper hiking boot when walking but without being overly clunky when clipped in. My last pair of Shimano bike shoes lasted many years and these seem like they are built to last as well. Had to get a size smaller than my last pair of Shimano bike shoes (different model). Also having the waterproof gore-tex is a huge plus. Can't wait to take these shoes out bike packing!

Unanswered Question
