3D Plus Road Crankset
Stiff, light, and ready to soar to the front of the peloton, ROTOR's 3D Plus Road Crankset is eager to put down the power with flex-free control that doesn't waste the watts. The cranks originally hit the market after taking feedback from Cervelo's test team, and to this day they retain many of the coveted characteristics, like Trinity drilled arms to shed grams, and compatibility with a variety of chainrings to satisfy the needs of riders from the tarmac to gravel. This particular model comes ready to spin with a set of 52/36t round rings, but are easy to swap for oval should you want to find out what Q-rings are all about.
Like the originals, these cranks are lightweight and stiff — even more so than most carbon cranks on the market. To accomplish this, the 3D Plus Road Cranks use a new 7055 alloy, as well as Rotor's proprietary Trinity Drilling System. Using an end-drilling process, slightly different than in the 3D Road, the resulting structure is similar to that of a box-truss bridge. This allows the crank to further resist rotational and bending forces better than hollow-tube construction. Through this same-end drilling process, they are able to relieve the 3D Plus arms of even more excess material, and therefore excess weight, while maintaining the rigidity and strength you need to keep all your power going directly to the pedals.
The 30mm alloy spindle is sized to work with either BB Right or BB30 standards. Rotor includes the appropriate fittings for both systems. In fact, with the proper Rotor bearing cups (BB30-BSA), the 3D Plus Cranks can be used in a standard 68mm English-threaded or Italian-threaded bottom bracket shell. In any application, Rotor's clever design and machine work is evidenced by their use of a locking preload collar that makes bearing adjustment a breeze once the crankarms are installed and torqued to spec. This preload collar is another difference from the standard 3D Road Cranks as they use a different system to connect it all together.
