Had a multi-bike crash over the weekend, slammed my head on the pavement, dented the shell and foam, but was able to complete the ride without any ill effects to brain or [kind of] body. This is the 2nd time a POC helmet has saved me from some serious damage. Ordered another one when I got home. Also, the straps are fully adjustable, they just take some work.

Good Quality, Straps Lack Adjustment

Familiarity:

This is a very well designed helmet, except for the V-straps on each side of the helmet. Those cannot be adjusted, and they didn’t work for me, so I returned the helmet. One other note. The rear dial height can be adjusted, but this is not mentioned in POC’s useless user manual. Under the two center pads there’s a four-position track for the dial height, slide the plastic tabs into the position that works best. Don’t pull out the tabs, just slide them, they’re stiff, but will move with a little effort. A good helmet, if the side strap position works for you.

I purchased a Medium for my son. Everything fits and it is a beautiful helmet. However, I should have read the reviews. The straps are not adjustable at all which means that where the straps meet at is pushing on his ear lobes. The straps are simply too short and I even tried to see whether it is perhaps the shape of his face, trying it also on my wife (too small to fit my head) and the same issue. The straps sit and press under his earlobes and with no adjustment possible this great looking helmet is a no go. Reading reviews on here now and other sites, it is clearly a problem for many buyers of this helmet. Even funnier, when you search images for this helmet, may images clearly show that the straps are on or pressing on the ears. I am currently returning it and purchasing the Kask Protone that doesn't seem to have such issues in the strap design.

Retention system not adjustable

Unfortunately the strap retention system is not height adjustable like on Giros and other brands- only a knob to adjust the tension. It sits directly on the occipital bun and is a very uncomfortable fit. I'm returning it and replacing with another Giro since they have the best adjustability.

Actually, the height of the rear dial has four height adjustments, the adjustment track is hidden under the two middle SPIN pads. Move the pads to the side, and then slide the anchoring tabs along the track to adjust as needed. The tabs are very stiff, but they will slide, don’t pull them out! The POC helmet manual is a disgrace, a tiny 2” by 3” booklet printed in 6 pt type that doesn’t explain any of the helmet features or adjustments. This, from a company that insists they’re focused on safety. POC needs to do better.

Great overall helmet 4 stars

I have put 2000kms in with this helmet and love everything about it besides the sunglass garage. It simple does not work for me no matter how I put my sunglasses in. I am a bigger rider who loves to climb. I also sweat a lot normally, but put me on a climb and here comes the waterworks. So for me i need to be able to put them in the garage and have them stay. Unfortunately that doesn't happen for me. If that isn't a problem for you then this would be the helmet to buy as the rest of the features are amazing. I wear a medium helmet in every brand and had no issues with the sizing as others have stated. (Oakley- Kask)

Great helmet but did not work for me

Familiarity:

I was really impressed with the look, weight, and build of this helmet and was really hoping it would work for me. A medium fit me perfectly circumference wise. However, the straps did not have enough adjustability to accommodate my ears. The lowest strap setting I could muster still had the triangle resting at about mid-ear. Really wanted this helmet to work for me but unfortunately had to return it.

Love this helmet. Super light. You don't even feel it is on. Doesn't make your head look like a mushroom the way the older POC ones did. I can also see perfectly as it is high enough. Perfect ventilation. I found it ran large so originally ordered a Medium which I sent back. When I received the Small after my return it was a great fit. Well worth the extra money.

Small

I bought the medium helmet first, but it felt a bit big. I decided to buy the small-sized helmet, and now it’s too small. My head size is 55cm, so I’m in between both dimensions. I guess I’ll try another brand. Be careful if you’re like me and in the middle of the two sizes.

This is my third POC road helmet. I like the style, the colors, the venting, the feel. The one thing that is frustrating is the different sizing. A large Octal is not the same size as a large Ventral. And while the difference is small and probably negligible for most, it has led me to having to order the medium and large sizes each time and try them out, because one will fit and one wont and it isn't uniform across the board. I have a medium octal which fits great and a large ventral air spin right which fits pretty well. I tried a large ventral spin and it rocked around all over the place. So, its a medium ventral and a large ventral air. Go figure.

I have an POC Octal (L), purchased in 2018, which fits me well. Ordered the Ventral Air Spin in Large, based on my skull measurement of approx 60.5 cm, as the POC sizing guidance claims Large should fit up to 61 cm. Not so much. Helmet is too small, so returning and will try the Giro Aether. I do not think it is a question of skull shape versus circumference, as the helmet was tight at my temples and at anterior and posterior aspects of my head. It just runs small in terms of circumference, which resulted in the superior aspect of my skull not even touching the top of the interior. if you are anything north of 59.5, I'd stay away from this model. I love POC so giving it four stars given the issue does not involve a technical flaw with the helmet. Great customer service, as always, from CC. You guys are killing it. Thanks, Riley!

This is by far the most comfortable helmet I have ever worn. Quite frankly, it completely "disappears" on my head when I'm riding. That is to say, it's so comfortable in every way that I completely forget that I am wearing a helmet. It's one of those things, like a saddle, where it might take a while to hone in on what works best for you, but when you find the right product, it goes *poof* and you never think about it again. For me, this helmet is like that. Like most things, your mileage may vary in terms of fit, but the non-subjective elements of the helmet are all great. The build quality is clearly of a superior grade, and every small detail has been meticulously dialed in. The only downside to this helmet is the price, BUT I feel that is it actually a really great value since it is a truly superior product. Worth every penny, and I'm not a guy who has lots of pennies to spare. Just spend the extra money and get a helmet that will love you back, okay?

This is the helmet that I reach for most days. POC did a great job with venting across the forehead, something that my Specialized & Bontrager helmets struggle with. When I'm doing short, hard efforts; this helmet doesn't drip into my eyes and keeps me cool. On long days out, the lightweight and sunglass grippers keep it comfortable all day long. I can't say enough good things about my Ventral Air! A few notes: - POCs are sized a bit smaller than some other brands - measure your melon. - the padding/venting is designed to float away from the helmet, so don't jam your head into a smaller size

A Step up from Giro Synthe IMO

Admittedly, I've been a Giro fanboy since riding my first MTB hardtail in the mid 90s. Every cycling helmet I've ever worn was a Giro, but IMO the more organic, curvy Giro look is a bit long in the tooth these days. After having my Synthe for nearly five seasons, it was time to look elsewhere and mix it up. The POC Ventral Air Spin had the low-profile fit I was looking for, with POC's angular styling, AND its proprietary SPIN tech to help reduce angular forces in a crash. Like other reviewers mentioned, the Ventral just fit right out of the box. It's a bit heavier than the Synthe, but once you're wearing it, it disappears on your head. I appreciate the more elegant system to transition the ear straps to the chin buckle—I had no issues with the fixed ear strap being too short, even with a cycling cap on. The elasticized sleeve to retain extra chin strap length is a great touch too, keeps the look super clean. The retention system is nicely adjustable and more robust than Giro's offering, it should be more durable too. The ventilation and sweat absorption on the Ventral are fantastic, and the helmet sits nice and low on your head, falling right above the eyebrow without the dreaded gaper gap between your shades and helmet. I only have a hundred miles or so on the Ventral, but I'm absolutely stoked on it. Definitely worth a shot for a high-end helmet with ultra low-profile looks, and fantastic features.

A helmet isn’t supposed to be positioned right above your eyebrows, the general fit rule is one or two fingers width above the eyebrows. If that ultra-low position works for you, great, but you might consider raising or lowering the height of the rear dial cradle for a better fit. That cradle slides on two tracks hidden under the two middle SPIN pads. There are four height positions.

Both helmets fit perfectly out of the box. Very comfortable. Disconcerting as the airflow across my hair makes it feel like there is no helmet on. Second helmet was required due to a crash. Cooking oil in a parking lot. Looked like water. Helmet hit hard on the asphalt with my head in it (of course). A little ding on the helmet. I was fine (except for damaged teeth from my jaw banging shut). After waiting a bit to make sure that there was no concussion, I rode on. Two days later I discovered that the retention points has released, protecting my head/neck. Six months later the usual sweat/grime outlined a small crack in the foam where the helmet took the impact. It hurt to replace an expensive helmet that only had a tiny crack in the foam, but it did its job. I like the orange color!

Used to think my Kask Mojito was the best helmet until I bought this helmet. The ventilation on this helmet is amazing. I had my Mojito for about 6 years, and when I put this helmet on for the first time I was blown away by the ventilation just walking around the house. Great for hot and humid summers we have here in St. Louis. At first I was never a fan of the looks of this helmet seeing it on the pros, but I think it looks awesome in black on me and doesn't have much of the "mushroom" look people talk about. Its comfortable, it fits good and I will continue to recommend this helmet. I went off the measurement recommendations on POC's website and this helmet fits perfect.

I have been using this helmet now for about a year and absolutely love it. Comfort is absolutely incredible, it’s adjustability is pretty good despite many of the reviews, and the ventilation is out of this world! I think a lot of folks are way to quick to throw a low star review up based on nit-picky stuff, based on their dislike of how an issue was handled, or based on a defective item before they’ve had an opportunity to confirm the flaw in a non-defective item. I have had zero issues with my Zinc AVIP model.

Purchasing something like a helmet online can be haphazard. However after taking the plunge, my fit is outstanding, along with being the best ventilated helmet I have used; the straps do not irritate me like many past helmets. Quality is clearly observable.
