Description

Pro Bib Shorts

When you know you're in for a long day in the saddle, grab the Pro Bib Shorts from Pearl Izumi and you can rest assured knowing that you'll be comfortable for the duration of the ride. Crafted with highly technical fabrics and a refined fit, the Pro Bib Short simply disappears and lets you focus on the road ahead.

Pearl Izumi bestows this bib short with its supportive and breathable PRO Escape 1:1 chamois and ultra-soft Italian PRO Transfer fabric creating a short that will be your go-to throughout the season. Seven specially designed panels minimize the number of seams for a better fit. Up top, the wide, laser cut bib straps sit softly against your body, resisting twisting and binding for a comfortable, supportive fit. Raw edges at the hems create smooth transitions from the short and your skin and it looks as good as it feels. Finally, leg openings get a printed silicone gripper to hold them securely in place throughout the ride.

  • Long-distance bibs short with race-day fit and functionality
  • Contoured fit follows your body movements in the saddle
  • Italian PRO Transfer wicks moisture continuously to keep you cool
  • Laser cut bib provides support while helping you stay dry
  • Soft, breathable PRO Escape 1:1 chamois cushions while moving with you
  • Silicone leg grippers keep the openings in place
  • BioViz reflective elements help you be seen in low-light

For this redesign (2019), Pearl added an entire extra inch of length to the inseam-- making these bibs WAY too long for a lot of people. I've worn nothing but Pearl ELITE and PRO bibs for years now, but they've sized me out with their redesigned bibs. I know bibs cant fit everyone, but its disappointing to go from having nothing but ELITE and PRO bibs in my gear closet-- to no longer being able to wear them anymore at all. If "The Black Bib" can offer up multiple inseam lengths, why can't Pearl? Just overall very, very disappointed. If these fit you, they're a great bib. But steer clear if you're on the shorter end of the spectrum because they're just gonna be too long compared to the old PRO Escape bibs.

I discovered Izumi when I took advantage of the winter gear sales and picked these up on sale too. Rode for the last week and it’s the nicest pad I’ve tried, it stayed in place and I didn’t need chamois cream for a 90 minuter. Looking forward to trying a century on them soon.

They’re simple but they just feel good ride after ride. Love the straps, pad, and legs. Worn for a few centuries without giving them a thought. I have PI bibs from Elite and Pro levels, and M fits me for both. The fabric in these may be a little more forgiving than old Pros but not wrinkled or loose. Just a nice soft stretchy fabric. No rips or loose seams after probably 2,000 miles.

CAT 2 MTB Racer in my 60s. Been buying Pearl Izumi Pro Bibs since 2008 and love them. Two of my early ones finally wore out so needed to replace. Expected to be as good but they're better. How: They are lighter, more form fitting yet more comfortable. Was concerned about the straps and legs just being cut, not stitched, but it actually adds to the comfort and feels like nothing at all. The chamois is at least as good or better than my latest ones. Really happy!

    Silky soft!

    Familiarity:
    I've used it several times

I had been going slightly insane trying to find a bib short that fit my tall, lanky body (6'2 1/2" / 165 lbs). I tried the top of the line offerings from Assos and Castelli, among others but found that with each of these brands, the leg openings never fit flat against my skin and would essentially buckle and flap. Even when I tried to force myself into a medium and had to struggle to putt the shoulder straps on. Then a friend told me to try PI. All I can say is my long, personal nightmare is over! The PRO bibs are incredible! First of all, the fabric. Oh the fabric! So soft! So silky! Never worn a pair of bibs this luxurious. (without any bulkiness). And yes, the leg openings fit snugly with no looseness but also without too much compression. The pad is soft and comfy too so my "down there" parts are happy. Thank you Pearl Izumi.

    Blown Away

    Familiarity:
    I've used it several times

This is the first time I have even owned or worn anything from PI, and I am blown away by both the PRO Bibs and PRO Jersey. I think PI gets a bad wrap because 99% of bike shops that carry them only carry the entry level product, so they are known by many as an "entry level brand." For years I've worn the top end products from Rapha, Giordana, Castelli, Assos, and others. These are among the best, if not THE best I've used. Not one of the other brands I've used has ever checked all of the boxes for me. Either I would love the fit and fabrics, but not the chamois, or the bibs were great but I didn't like the way the jersey fit. Both of these checked all the boxes! First, the fabric is luxurious and feels amazing. The bibs have a great compressive fit, and the chamois is one of the best I've tried. On the second ride with these I did 75 miles in 95 degree heat and they performed flawlessly. The jersey is just as good, and I love the fact that is has longer sleeves, but a "regular" collar. Many summer jerseys today have almost no collar at all, and that does not work for me. I want some protection from the sun on the back of my neck, and I think it looks better. If you're looking for a high performance kit that makes a statement with quality and performance instead of graphics, then this might be the one for you. The Pearl Izumi PRO Bibs and Jersey have become one of the favorites in my closet.

I saw the PI Pro Mesh Jersey and Pro Bib Shorts in a clinic and was impressed with the style. The first time PI has ever impressed me with style and fit. I bought a kit and had low expectations. I own the best cycling kits in the industry and have paid a lot more for brands like Giordana and Assos. Those kits are great but this PI Pro stuff throws punches way out of its weight class. The fit is spot on. The jersey has a longer sleeve and almost reaches my elbow and the bibs have the perfect inseam for some crisp lower quad tan lines. The quality of the material is awesome as well. The bibs and jersey almost have a cooling effect. The chamois is spot on as well. Nice placement and great padding for all day adventures or races. This is the best value in the cycling industry. Great cycling kit at a great price! You will love these pieces. ENJOY!

My new favorite bibs. Why did I stay away from Pearl Izumi for so long? I don't know. But I'm glad I discovered these Pro bibs. The PRO Escape 1:1 chamois is not bulky like some other brands but it's super comfortable. I've mainly been wearing these while out gravel/road riding and hitting the trails on my XC bike and they have provided hours of comfort in the saddle. The laser cut leg openings with silicone leg grippers are some of the best I've experienced in shorts. The shorts just blend into your skin if that makes sense. I think that they run pretty true to size. Maybe a little on the snugger side but I am happy with the Mediums at 6'1" and 165lbs. Oh, and the laser cut bib straps are some of the most comfortable I've experienced. Similar to how the leg opening blend into your legs, the bib straps disappear with their next to skin comfort. That is not always the case with my height. I highly recommend you give these bibs a try!

I'll be honest, I've been biased to ride in other brands that I have always thought as superior to Pearl Izumi. Brands that have been in the business for longer, brands that are European, brands that are typically more expensive, etc. etc. I will say, however, that I am more than just pleasantly surprised with how awesome these bibs are. I have found that most bibs (at least on me) have tight spots that can be uncomfortable after about an hour and a half of riding. After doing about 3 and a half hours of riding the past weekend in these bibs, I was more than comfortable and didn't find any of those weird tight or hot spots. The materials used and build quality are top notch. If I were to pin an adjective to these bibs in order to describe them, it would be "supple". The material is soft to the touch but will definitely hold up to thousands of miles of riding. That brings me to the build quality. I love the little details in these bibs. The bottom of the legs don't have the sewn in panels with the rubber grip to keep it on your leg, but rather is one panel all the way down the sides and front. This minimizes the amount of seams against your body leaving you with less "rubbage" all over. It still has the rubber on the end to keep it on your leg and keep it from riding up, but it isn't in the way or uncomfortable. I also really like the bib part of the shorts, the straps are the same soft material, stretch well, but have no real apparent seams so it sits really well against the skin. Overall, Pearl Izumi killed it with the bib design and to top it all off, put a nice, comfortable chamois in it that isn't overly large, but has the right padding in the right places. I paired the blue shorts with their Pro Mesh yellow paisley jersey, and have gotten more compliments wearing it than with any of my other kits. Definitely going to be buying Pearl Izumi kits in the future.

    I'll
