Maxxis Minion DHR II 3C/Double Down/TR Tire - 29in $86.00
Whether you're rolling loose, floaty trails or fast-rolling hardpack, the Maxxis Minion DHR II 3C/Double Down/TR 29in Tire's versatility makes it a go-to choice for downhill and freeride adventures. The DHR borrows the shoulder lugs from its sibling, the DHF to take on a slightly wider stance than the original DHR. The center lugs, which were once completely separated, are now nearly joined for a bit of a paddle effect. Together these improvements mean better cornering and improved braking, especially in loose conditions.
Maxxis' Double Down dual-ply casing construction provides slightly heavier, downhill-worthy protection compared to EXO. While this does add a bit of weight, it makes up for that small compromise with increased durability through hard-charging runs and heart-dropping descents.
- A burly 29-inch gravity tire that grips hard
- 3C compound with rugged tread pattern
- Double Down casing construction increases durability

Excellent grip, super durable casing
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
The DHR II is a great rear tire for all conditions. It has great braking traction and the prominent side knobs offering excellent cornering grip. Traction breaks predictably.
This is the Double Down casing. It is thicker and tougher than the EXO casing. It's ideal for aggressive riders and rough terrain. It takes a lot to puncture or slice these. I haven't managed to do it yet running tubeless setup at 26-29 psi. With this level of protection there is a weight penalty. Very worth it in my opinion. We have lots of rocks and high speed trails here in Utah and the Maxxis Double Down casing is the way to go.
The thing that kept me from giving a 5 star rating is that the 3C compound wears somewhat quickly as a rear tire. The grip is unbeatable but if you want longer life go with the Dual Compound rubber instead of 3C.
