Shed some light.

We've certainly learned the hard way just how dark certain stretches of road can be at night. Inconsistent street lights do their part to generally illuminate the tarmac, but once we leave them behind, handlebar lights tend to look a lot dimmer than we remembered them to be when we had the light of dusk on our side. Whether your commute regularly extends past sunset or you enjoy logging endurance training miles without the punishing sun on your shoulders, Light & Motion's Urban 850 Road LTD Barfly Combo Headlight makes one hell of a companion in the dark.

Bathing the road in up to 850 lumens of light, the Urban 850 emits light in a beam pattern specifically engineered to improve depth perception and provide a smooth, cohesive stream of light in front and to the sides of your bike. Since there's no sense in having a powerful headlight if you can't trust it to stay mounted to your handlebars, Light & Motion also includes Barfly's renowned SLi mount to secure it to your bars without unnecessary bulk. The Urban 850 comes with three separate modes for adjusting your light levels to the day's conditions, as well as a waterproof rating of IP67, which enables it to remain fully waterproof in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

  • A powerful headlight for nighttime commutes and training
  • Beam optimizes depth perception and peripheral vision
  • Includes durable Barfly SLi handlebar mount

Barfly Not Compatible

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very happy with the light and the performance of the light. The barfly did not work on any of the 2 mountain and 2 road bikes I own. It's a great concept but needs more spacers and options to mount securely to the handlebars. The space where I could get the barfly mounted has a slight taper and the entire unit came loose within 30 minutes of riding. I went back to my Garmin GPS mount and used the handlebar mount that came with the light. I would either save the money or put the same dollars to a higher output light.

Unanswered Question

Will the light run/work while being charged by an external battery source?

Perfect front end bike light!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The adjustable arm and pivot at the base of the light make this light perfect for changing conditions and easy to adjust on the fly. I can turn the light left or right, as well as up and down easily. The light itself is unbelievably bright with a number of different lighting options.

Will the Garmin Edge 1000 fit in this mount? It looks like it might not have enough room to clear the bars.

Does the Wahoo Elemnt fit on the Barfly mount?

The official answer to that is no; the mount is slightly different. But, if your barfly is broken in a bit, the Elemnt will fit.

clean look and great light

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Its a great light. Even at the lowest setting visibility is better than good. I installed this in minutes and couldnt be happier with the quality of the material and the clean look.

Update:

I replaced my forks, handlebars, and stem. When I removed the mount, it's a very small metric hex pan head, it was easily rounded out. I've ended up replacing the OEM bolt with a m4-0.7 x 20 mm pan head (Phillips) in stainless steel and it looks great. I was worried about the finished look and it's just as nice as the original.

installed in a few minutes. you need two hex wrenches. one for the light mount
and the other for the handle bar mount.
