PRO Braze-On Chain Catcher

While modern drivetrains have made respectable efforts to prevent dropped chains, it can -- and will -- still happen. And if it happens on a new carbon frame, you're going to have a bad time. For added insurance against a gouges and scratches, install the K-Edge PRO Braze-On Chain Catcher.

Not only is the K-Edge a frame safeguard, it also ensures you don't miss a big ring to inner ring shift when you need it the most -- right before a harrowing climb. Its lightweight aluminum construction simply attaches to frames with braze-on front derailleurs mounts with the included hardware.

Made from CNC-machined 6061 T6 aluminum in Boise, ID., it weighs 10g and is available in six colors -- Black, Blue, Gunmetal, Gold, Red, and White. It comes with 2 mounting bolts -- 20mm for Shimano or Campagnolo (except Campy EPS), and a 25mm for SRAM.

    Included screws strip easily

The chain catcher looks pretty nice but the included screws deform easily even when using a torque wrench. Seems like a common problem based on other reviews so get the SRAM one instead.

It does what it's meant to do!

I've put it through the wringer

It does what it's meant to do. My chain drops once in a while and I'm used to scratching my frame. I got sick and tired of it and decided that on my next bike I'm getting a chain catcher. It catches the chain and I have more peace of mind.

Can you confirm that this has mounting screws fro a SRAM derailleur (Force, mechanical) ? Thanks, Mark

Hey Mark, It will come with a 25mm long bolt for Sram front derailleurs.

No SRAM bolt! But, it said.....

I returned this product before using it

Well, this is the second K-Edge Pro Chain Catcher I've purchased and both have had the same issue. There wasn't a bolt long enough to work with the SRAM front mech. In the specs they list a couple of sizes of attachment bolts. The shrink wrapped package should have a total of 3 bolts. Don't take off your derailleur like I did expecting all of the parts to be there if you're using SRAM.

Just had the same experience. Need to return it. What color did you purchase? I ordered a black one which was on sale but the picture with both bolts are in red. And that one is not on sale. Either way the description clearly says both 20 and 25 so...

    May not fit

I've put it through the wringer

The explanation from Competitive Cyclist reads: - "20mm for Shimano or Campagnolo (except Campy EPS) and a 25mm for SRAM"; and, - the Compatibility section says: "braze-on". Unfortunately not good and clear enough for me as the pice does not fit my Campagnolo SR 2014 as shown in the attached pictures. Tried contacting K-Edge directly but got no response. Hope this review its helpful.

Mauricio, We can be reached anytime at or by phone at 208-947-7325. We are sorry we somehow missed your calls or voicemails? We'd love to help you fit this to your Campy set up. Campy has various "special" ways of making this a bit challenging, but Pro Teams like Lotto Soudal, etc. run our chaincatchers successfully with Campy, so please let us help you get this worked out. ps. the picture doesn't show your Campy derailleur so I can tell from here how to help.

    frame saver

I've put it through the wringer

I have been using a K-Edge chain catcher for years. This has saved my frame from damage countless times by stopping the chain from jamming into the frame, after a bad shift.

    It doesn't work

I've put it through the wringer

I have this on my bike, and suffered multiple chain derailments with the chain wedged between the crank and my now scratched frame. This thing doesn't prevent jack. It might have prevented one or two incidences? I don't know, but I do know this catastrophe still occurred.

Dear TexClyde, Our K-EDGE chaincatchers have performed flawlessly to win Tour de France, Paris Roubaix, Gold Medals, World we are sad to hear it didn't work for you. Could it be you didn't set it up correctly? We often leave just 1mm of space between the chain and chaincatcher when in the largest cassette gear. You might check this, as no chain can fit through that gap.

    Excellent design

It really keeps the chain in position.
