Item # GIR007G

What do boxing and cycling have in common? Well, not much, actually. But that still didn't stop the engineers at MIPs and Giro from using head impacts in the ring as part of the comprehensive corpus of research that informs the ingenious, impact-diffusing design of the Savant MIPS Helmet.

The Savant is the product of Giro's collaboration with MIPS, a project that took two years and thousands of tests to create a helmet based on biology. The collaboration's goal was to mimic your skull's cerebrospinal fluid, which lets your head's different protective layers move laterally, independently of each other, to diffuse the force of oblique impacts.

The Savant translates this model to exosomatic applications by allowing the outer shell to slide across the helmet's inner basket when tangential force is applied. Instead of just absorbing energy, the helmet's MIPS technology is able to redirect it.

While the tectonic outer shell is the result of an international collaboration, the rest of the helmet is pure Giro. The In-mold construction process fuses a middle layer of polycarbonate to the impact-absorbing EPS foam body to bump up durability without a corresponding rise in weight. A healthy dose of vents and internal air channeling keep your head cool, so you're not sacrificing comfort for safety, and Giro's Roc Loc 5 system uses a ratcheting dial and adjustable fore/aft tilt for unrivaled customizability of fit.

Exactly what I expected

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Size Bought: Medium

It's great! It's affordable, comfortable and safe. What more could you ask for in a helmet? I've always liked the way Giro fits and the fit adjustment seems to suck the helmet down onto my head evenly, keeping the helmet in a safe position. When I tuck down into my drops, I don't feel there's any obstruction of my view and I don't feel any pressure on the back of my head/upper neck. The ventilation is adequate and the straps are comfortable. With all of that being said, this is a relatively "affordable" helmet. So, there are certainly lighter helmets with greater ventilation and performance. However, for the price, I highly recommend this helmet.

Love this...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my first road bike helmet and I am very impressed. I have a larger head and have always found it difficult to find a descent fitting helmet that still looks streamlined. The adjustments on the Savant are better than anything I have tried before. Excellent fit and the straps don't pinch my ears and glasses. Very happy with this purchase.

Cool Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a very comfortable helmet. Lightweight and the retention system rocks, hardly notice it's on my head.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this to my husband, who is quite pleased with it. It's nice and light, and comfortable on long rides. He has a pretty small head and the small fits great -- the adjustment dial works really well.

Not Bad Could Be Improved

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The helmet is nice, not heavy at all, much more comfortable and fit better than the Mavic I had been using. The medium Giro had a broader range that the Mavic, with the Mavic I had to be adjusted nearly to the end of the systems reach, not so with the Giro.
One drawback is the helmet retaining straps. Because of the design the straps do not lay flat to the side of your head, they have a distracting twist to them. The retaining clasp/webbing is made from two pieces of webbing material where one would have sufficed, adding unnecessary bulk under your chin. I would have given 3.5 stars but can't, it is better than a 3 though.

Mom Approved!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My Mother is an avid cyclist, but she was still rocking her helmet from like 10 years ago. It was time to upgrade and the Giro Savant totally fit the bill. She has an incredibly small head and the helmet is easy to adjust and fits wonderfully. Great safety ratings and attention to design.

Saving lives!

Helmets in general could be the biggest factor between life and death, whether your on the road or trail. A family member of mine used this helmet and request another after their crash. They said it's well ventilated, size fits perfectly on their head and no feed back from their hearing aids.

    Neat helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Great helmet, great price with nice safety feats. I bought the Medium size and it fits perfectly. Comes with a nice twist'n lock system which makes the fitting even more precise. Not the lightest you will find out there, but all in all, if you are a casual rider like me, you will find that that's not the most critical thing. To me it's safety and this helmet brings it.

    Solid helmet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Thankfully, I haven't yet had an opportunity to test this for it's intended purpose (knock on wood), but I have worn the helmet extensively. As far as helmets go, this is a great one, especially for the price. It has good airflow, and fits nicely. The inclusion of MIPS technology is nice. Finally, it's a pretty good-looking helmet, which is a plus.

    Great Helmet for the price.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It fits really well. the Roc Loc system allows you to perfectly dial in to the correct tightness. It is extremely comfy and breaths extremely well. For the price it is a great deal. my two issues are the chin straps are just extremely long.. i trimmed them but it was crazy how long they were and the color i have (matte black) scratches really really easy. But other than that no issues.

    MIPS Works!

I have been a long time user of Giro helmets and can state from personal experiences (more than I really want to admit to) that they do an excellent job of protecting your noggin. The MIPS seems to me to be a good selling point but today - after crashing and getting my bell rung! - I am glad that I spent the extra money for it. For a helmet that was purchased just over a month ago today it did it's job. I am back to purchase another. Thanks trusty Giro helmet!

For the price a great helmet

This helmet is a great price for MIPS technology. It is a little on the heavy side compared to what I'm used to. My lightweight Giro bit the dust when a road raged driver pushed me over... But better the helmet than my melon. I walked away without a concussion. Giro fits me well so I stuck with it. The adjustable sizing system works well. The straps are a bit bulky but it looks good and I feel safe enough.

    Good fitting helmet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I haven't worn a Giro helmet in a few years because I thought other brands fit better. This one is the best Giro I've owned and I'm glad it has MIPS.

    Great Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I crashed out my Giro Air Attack and was looking for another trustworthy Giro helmet that wouldn't break the bank. This is a light and airy helmet that is comfortable in the cool morning and scorching summer heat. Actually, once it is on, I don't notice it, which is excellent. I highly recommend it!

    Overall, pretty pleased

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It's another awesome Giro helmet. A decent intermediate level purchase - the fit is comfortable, there's great airflow, and the adjustable forward-backward is a nice feature too. Price point is more than fair considering the inclusion of the MIPS.

Awfully light compared to my entry level lid. A little more round on the horizontal plane than I'm in love with but I'll take the extra protection that comes with a little more helmet - it is the only thing protecting your domepiece after all.

    Worth The Money!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After learning about MIPS helmets I have been searching for one but I have been putting it off since most were made for MTB, ugly or very expensive! That was until I found the Giro Savant MIPS! The helmet is comfortable, stylish, MIPS equipped and at a reasonable price! Have had the helmet over a month now and no complaints.
