Description

Location is everything.

If you've been feeling that zip-tying your Garmin Edge mount to your stem seems, let's say, a little sketchy, you're not alone. And as long as we're being curmudgeons, we also find that directing our vision straight down at the stem isn't the safest thing to do in the middle of the peloton, either. That's why the Garmin Out-Front Bike Mount is a godsend for both sensible location and security.

Basically, this mount attaches to the bars, and places your Edge or Forerunner CPU directly in front of your stem plate. So, your ride data is easier to view, and dare we say it, the mount makes your setup look really pro.

The Garmin Out-Front Bike Mount is available in the color Black and is compatible with 31.8mm diameter handlebars. Please note that this mount is only compatible with the Garmin Edge series 200, 500, 510, 800, and 810. If you want to attach your Garmin Forerunner 310 or 910XT, you'll need Garmin's quick-release kit that's sold separately.

  • Mounts to Garmin Edge 200, 500, 510, 800, 810 bike computers
  • Compatible with Garmin Forerunner 310, 910XT with separate quick-release kit
  • Attaches to 31.8mm diameter handlebars

    Poor design

I bought the mount for use with Garmin Edge Explore. It has two problems:
      1) the mount locks the computer in an annoying position that is not parallel with the front tire (~11:58). Talked to my LBS and they said they had the same experience and stopped using the mounts.
      2) while riding with friends they questioned me about a rattling sound on my bike. Discovered it was the computer touching the mount in the lower right corner. How is this possible?
Look for a mount made by another manufacturer.

Wanted to make sure that the out front mount works with the edge 130?

Thank you Pete, great question. Yes, the out front mount is compatible with most models, and the 130 is one of them! The address below will pop you over to their site (you can copy and paste in to your search bar). When you get there, you can see all the devices compatible with this mount.

if you have any other questions, please feel free to shoot them over to me directly at krakowski@backcountry.com

      Good and sturdy

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have these installed on multiple road bikes as well as my fat bike. They work well and are much better than the stock mount that comes with the GPS. It would be great if these were easily removable, then you could just have the cost of one. They mount well and I haven’t experienced any clearance problems with he 810 unit.

      Easy on the eyes

This mount position your garmin in a easy to read position.

Beware of Garmin 800 and Zip Carbon stem

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

It does not fit the new chunky Zipp carbon stem. It sits off to the side and also rubs your garmin 800 onto the front of the $250 soon to be not so shiny carbon stem.

      Easy to read

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Makes it MUCH easier to read my Garmin with my 50 year old eyes! Excellent product

      Flexibility is nice

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My buddy bought a K-edge at the same time that I bought one of these. He broke off a tab on his Garmin soon after. I also crash often but have not broken off a tab. My theory is that the slight flexibility of this mount allows it to flex a little so as to give the tabs some leeway before breaking. I suspect if I hit something hard enough the tabs will still break off but at least my Garmin is still good months out.

      Front and Center

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased the K-Edge thinking the ability to pivot would be useful. It had to be mounted on the stem. During every ride, it would become loose and have to be retightened. A real nuisance. On the last occasion I used the K Edge, it flipped upside down, the pivot screw was jostled off, and my Garmin fell from the bike as I was riding. Fortunately I was aware enough and doubled back to retrieve it from the road (without getting run over). Competitive Cyclist was great to give me an RMA, even though the pivot screw was missing. I went with the Garmin mount, secured to my handle bar, front and center with no worries or regret.

      Like it!

I bought the Out Front and the Barfly 2.0 at the same time for my two road bikes. The Barfly is less expensive and less weight, but the Out Front has a sleeker, cleaner profile. Both work perfectly well. I briefly considered the K Edge, but it was much more expensive and the arm was too long for me visually. These two keep my computer a little closer to the handlebars.

Mounting Bracket Too Strong for Edge 500

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I learned the hard way that this over engineered and that my Edge 500 was under engineered. In a crash a few weeks ago, my Edge 500 was knocked off the bike. The mounting tabs on the 500 broke off when it was knocked off. They should have engineered the holder to break first. I like how the mount places the computer further forward. It is easier to look at when it is further out. Also it is a very clean look. The picture shows the computer tab still in place.

      Great product

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Easy to install and places the computer just the right distance forward of the bars. Securely holds the computer without digging into the plastic base like my older K-edge. FWIW, it looks like K-edge addressed this issue with their latest model.

      Out of the handlebar.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When I bought my Garmin I though that putting it out of the handlebar was not necessary, but after a couple of rides I decided to do it. Really I appreciate the reading better since I doesn't have to look on the handlebar anymore, just looking out front and a simple down to see the readings. You will not regret it.
