Factory damping and precision stiffness define the 38 Float Factory GRIP X2

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"The jump from the Grip 2 to the GRIP X2 damper is a genuine performance upgrade and not just a naming change. The larger base valve and higher valve count give you a tuning window wide enough to optimize the fork for completely different course conditions without starting from scratch, and the Kashima stanchions keep the feel consistent across an entire race day. At 180mm this fork handles the biggest enduro stages without flinching, and the ability to run it at 160mm or 170mm makes it a versatile platform for different bike geometries and riding styles."

Enduro racing rewards riders who can maintain speed and precision through the longest, most demanding stages on the mountain, and the fork at the front of your bike is the foundation everything else is built on. The Fox Shox 38 Float Factory GRIP X2 Fork is the choice of World Cup enduro racers and elite trail riders who understand that front-end performance is not a detail but a defining variable in the outcome of every descent.

The GRIP X2 damper is the critical upgrade in this generation of the 38 platform. A larger diameter base valve reduces operating pressures throughout the stroke, and the valve stack count has been tripled relative to the outgoing Grip 2 damper, producing a meaningfully wider tuning range and improved sensitivity from the very top of the travel through to full compression. Four independent adjustment circuits covering high and low speed compression and high and low speed rebound give riders the granular control needed to optimize the fork for specific course conditions, rider weight, and riding style. The ability to tune low speed compression independently from high speed compression is particularly valuable on technical enduro terrain, where the fork must handle both sustained loading through corners and abrupt, high-energy impacts from rock strikes and root hits within the same stage. The FLOAT EVOL air spring complements the damper with a progressive ramp profile that keeps the fork active and sensitive early in the stroke while building firm, predictable support as travel is used. Kashima coating on the 38mm aluminum stanchions reduces surface friction to Factory-tier levels, ensuring that damper performance remains consistent across a full day of hard riding regardless of temperature or trail conditions. The revised crown and arch geometry maintains the torsional stiffness the 38 platform is known for across the full range of lateral and braking loads that enduro racing produces, while integrated lower leg bleeders keep positive and negative air chambers equalized so the fork behaves identically at the top of a long stage as it does at the bottom.

Travel adjustability across 160mm, 170mm, and 180mm configurations makes the 38 Float Factory GRIP X2 a genuinely versatile platform. Riders building a dedicated race machine around maximum travel can run the fork at 180mm, while those working with tighter geometry targets or prioritizing climbing efficiency can step down to 160mm or 170mm without compromising damper or air spring performance. The fork is compatible with 15 x 110mm Boost spacing, accepts rotors from 180mm direct mount up to 230mm, and is rated for 29in wheel builds targeting enduro racing, aggressive all-mountain riding, and high-output trail use where descent performance is the priority.
