Steel construction on this driver body holds up to the repeated high-torque loading an E-MTB motor puts through the drivetrain, where an alloy freehub body wears faster under the same demands. The weight penalty over alloy is the tradeoff for a part that isn't the first thing to give out on a high-torque build.
