Why We Like The Terra Speed Tire

When we’re spending more time off-road than on, or just looking for a bit more traction and comfort during our commute, the Terra Speed Tire from Continental is what we can put on our gravel and commuter bike. We find this tire hooks up easily to washboard gravel or loose-over-hard dirt roads, which is incredibly important when we’re tired after 4hrs into this weekends gravel epic.

Great Feedback and Fast

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've ridden the larger Terra Trail version and now the Terra Speed. In between, i tried a few other types, but i do like these the best. The Terra Trail is notably faster than the Speed, but depending on your terrain, that may or may not be the best thing. The Speed has been fantastic on the fast rolling midwest gravel and still has enough knob for some light singletrack. Now, to a gripe. I am replacing one of my Terra Speeds b/c I was having fun running too low of a pressure. Not a big deal and my fault. BUT when I ordered the replacement and used the same SKU on Competitive Cyclist, I now get the "E Rated" version of this tire. What gives?! Even the packaging was the same and it wasn't until i unrolled it that the little yellow plug icon on the sidewall was visible. Now i have non-matchy matchy tires. So sad. :-( It looks like this one is about 30g heavier than the non E rated version. Not a huge deal, but seriously, the yellow plug icon is painful to look at when I don't even own an Ebike. Black sharpie is coming out tonight. as for large or small, i haven't measured these yet.

Laced these to a pair of Zipp 303s on my Cervelo Aspero for California gravel. Super fast and tough tires. Im running a 40mm with 50-60psi for gravel 2-4. Lots of bigs sharp rocks, and some descent jumps with fast descents. Held up extremely well. So far 40 miles with no issues.

Fast gravel tire

I have the 40mm version on my Boone. These tires are light, fast, and grippy on packed dirt roads, and fast on pavement as well. The best thing I can say about them is that you just have a lot of confidence on nearly every surface. They have the feel of a supple tire and they communicate the road/track feel pretty well and in ways that stiffer gravel tires do not. Maybe because of that suppleness or softer tread compound the tread wears down pretty quick when ridden on pavement, but a front-back swap extends the life of the tires. I had no trouble installing these tubeless. Neither pro nor con: after about 1000 miles, there were tiny pin prick holes that bled out a microscopic amount of sealant overnight, almost like having little wet spots on the tread of the tire, but which never led to pressure loss, which I thought was weird. I have about 1,600 miles on these now, and I will probably be ready for new ones after 2,000 total miles of 65/35 dirt/pavement riding. I will buy them again. EDIT: I've tried a few other tire brands since writing this review (the Terra Speeds were hard to find during the pandemic), and none seemed to match up with the Contis. This is the best gravel tire I have used.
