Not Perfect... Kind of

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are Chris King so I have no doubt about the bearing quality but the lack of a dust cap confuses me. Obviously the bearings are sealed otherwise I'm sure it would be blasted all over the internet, but I still can't wrap my head around why they wouldn't have made a dust cover even if it only served to stop grime from building up in the crevice on the outside of the bearing. I don't like that you can actually see a metal washer either so a cap would be a cosmetic improvement as well. I had to watch a video online of someone servicing the bearings before I trusted I had everything together right. I thought I must have been missing a few parts but that's just how it is. I'm thinking of dremeling out the center of my Raceface dust caps to make them work because I don't like the way it looks. Call me picky but I was disappointed when saw the finished product installed. I expected more attention to detail from a company like Chris King. I never had an issue with my Raceface BB but I was getting a CK headset and decided to replace the BB as well. Kinda wish I would have just stuck with the RF. Maybe I'll be blown away at the quality over the next couple months and it won't bother me. I just suspect I'm going to be cleaning the area out with a toothbrush every time I wash the bike and that shouldn't be necessary.

The whole thing with CK is that if it isn't running perfect you can easily service the bearings yourself. The shields that are used have worked for decades and will continue to do so without another plastic dust shield over it. With Chris King, if something is wrong its probably your fault.

I'm looking at either the FSA sl-k modular DM BB392EVO or the Raceface Next R crank. Can you tell me the appropriate CK BB and conversion kit for each of those if they're compatible. The bike will be 2020 Hightower. Thanks!

Set-It-N-Forget-It

The 30mm variant of the Threadfit series may not get as much attention as other King bottom brackets, but for those of us who need it (Cinch) there is no better option. After a few rides to "break in" the bearings, you'll wonder why you ever skimped on such a crucial component. Make sure your install goes smoothly with the CK bottom bracket tool (Item #CKG0027) and be sure to check the appropriate bottom bracket conversion kit (No. 21, 23 or 24) for your frame and crankset combo. Can you use any bsa 30 bottom bracket tool or do you have to use the king threadfit 30 botton bracket tool to install and remove the chris king threadfit 30 bottom bracket?
