Why We Like The Caledonia 105 Road Bike

Designed for a mix of it all and leaving little off the table, the Caledonia 105 is an all-new work of art that effortlessly fills the void between the aggressive road-specific design and laid-back gravel capacity. A bike many riders have been waiting for, the Caledonia is built for those who favor the speed and compact front end of road bikes, but are also pulled to the earthy taste of fine gravel dust on a gritty smile. And paired with the durable and reliable 105 semi-compact groupsets, with a 34 tooth cog on the back for smashing steep rollers or coaxing exhausted legs home, "road-riding" is about to be redefined.

The Caledonia is "engineered for the modern road" with a lightweight frame of 1031 grams and a shorter wheelbase and front-center than the Aspero gravel racer, it satisfies the road cycling, aero-mesh-wearing crew quite nicely. And with a trail and head tube angle similar to the Aspero—not to mention clearance for 34mm tires—the Caledonia is well-suited for tackling the roads less traveled while preserving the sharp handling of a dedicated road bike.

Cervelo also focuses on carbon layup with a mindset of increased rider comfort resulting in energy savings to ride faster for longer. Although constructed to be slightly heavier than its sibling, the Caledonia-5, Cervelo blends compliance and stiffness into the Caledonia's carbon layup to provide a smoother ride that mitigates the jarring effects of rough pavement without sacrificing the benefits of a stiff front end and bottom bracket area. The result is a frame that responds quickly to accelerations while remaining compliant enough to absorb significant turbulence from the roadways. And returning is Cervelo's proven blending of strategically oriented tube shapes to design a frame that will work best to meet the demands of racing.

Cervelo opts for a more traditional stem-bar interface on the Caledonia and a standard 27.2mm seatpost. The front derailleur mount is removable should you ever go 1x and want a cleaner aesthetic. Internal cable routing is available, although not integrated through the stem junction as in the Caledonia-5. Additionally, hidden fender mounts are onboard, which when used with fenders minimally reduce tire clearance down to 31mm. All in all, the Caledonia ushers in a new breed of road bike that satisfies the growing demands of modern, all-terrain cycling.

Review what bike?

I *wish* I could write a raving review of the Cervelo Caledonia 105, because it’s a wonderful bike! I know first hand because I had to get it elsewhere since Competitive Cyclist canceled my order. No explanation or offering a different bike. That’s pretty poor customer service in my book.

I had never purchased a bike online before and I couldn't be happier with both my new Cervelo Caledonia and the service provided by Competitive Cyclist. The techs at CC answered all of my questions before I bought this bike, beautifully packed it so it arrived in perfect condition, and helped me with a couple of questions I had during assembly. The bike itself is an awesome upgrade over my Giant SL2 Contend. Not that it was a bad bike, but my Caledonia just fits and rides beautifully. Plus, the gloss black is super! I'm over 65 and during outdoor riding season, I average 50-60 miles per week with an occasional metric century. The 105 groupset is perfect for the rides i do and while I haven't done those metric rides yet, I can't wait to do it on my what my wife calls my "Superbike." Hart

I'm finding that I'm getting new PR's on the steep uphills. The disk breaks are getting me new PR's on the downhills. I'm flowing through gravel roads really well too. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The only noticable drawback may be that acceleration with the wider tires is somewhat slower. PS Everyone loves the Oasis Green paint job!

Please note that I'm newish to biking and don't have more than 2-3 years of experience plus I come from a second hand, very nice but very basic Fuji road bike with the most basic setup and groupset ( claris). That to me was a improvement since prior to that I only rode on nameless and other clunky bikes. With that out of the way, I have to say this bike is fantastic! First, but maybe least important the color is absolutely amazing! Pictures don't do it justice at all. Riding this bike it's on a complete other level. The group set is amazing and the shifting is precise and without issue. I can't say it makes it easier to ride but you can definitely feel the bike just wants to go and push you. Very happy I chose this bike with the 30mm tires and room for more, since the roads I mostly ride are not the greatest. Can't wait to put many more miles on this!
