That construction eliminates the tradeoff between carrying emergency stormproof coverage and losing pocket space to a vest or jacket. A separate stormproof softshell panel returns at the crotch, shielding the core from windchill and road spray independent of the chest system, while the antimicrobial insert, shared in design with the RS SCHTRADIVARI summer bib shorts, sits protected behind that panel for breathable, dry warmth.
