Avid BB7 Road S Disc Brake w/ Rotor $101.95
Before Avid's ingenious BB7, the Road S' great-granddaddy, mechanical disc brakes were inexpensive options with value as the only defining feature. Avid's engineers transformed that stigma by designing a system with ball bearings to produce smooth leverage and excellent modulation on par with hydraulic options.
Now, a refined version of that original, the two-piece Road S caliper, weighs comfortably under 200 grams with stainless steel hardware and a leverage ratio specific to road levers. It continues to use the simple Tri-Align caliper adjustment that is fast and easy. Simply loosen the mounting bolts, tighten the caliper to the rotor and tighten the mounting bolts, then back the pads off the rotor using the adjustment dials.
The BB7 Road S Disc Brake comes with either a 140mm or 160mm HS1 rotor, and appropriate hardware for post or IS standard mounting. The included pads are organic for quiet operation.
Actual weights are measured in-house by the Competitive Cyclist team.

i currently have the BB5's on my specialized secteur disc and want to upgrade. Are these compatable with my shimano brake levers?
BB7 S Roads
Great stopping power at a decent price.
BB7's Keep Gettin' Better
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
My first use of BB7's was back in the late 90's. I was too cheap at the time to get hydros. They worked, but definitely weren't all that great. I am tempted to say it was like a lateral move away from V-Brakes. Heh!
Fast forward to 2014...
Getting into cross this season, our frames are now disc. After many reviews, I pulled the trigger on a couple sets for our new rides. Whoa! Night and day difference from when I used them before.
We've got about 700+ miles on them, encountered mud, snow, and countless water crossings... they keep on stoppin! When the price of hydro's come down (in the road/cross world this time) I'll have to see how they compare. But until then, they're kickin' some major A!
