Whether you're riding fast hardpack terrain or loose, sketchy silt, the Specialized Butcher provides strong traction and accurate steering in a wide range of conditions. It's also highly durable thanks to the dual-ply Grid Gravity casing that offers excellent puncture resistance when you're tackling rugged enduro tracks and steep downhills littered with jagged rocks. And though it might be a tad heavy for day-to-day trail riding, it's a great choice for aggressive trail and gravity riders that don't mind sacrificing a bit of weight for the best possible flat protection.
For the new Butcher, Specialized developed an entirely new set of rubber compounds for targeted performance based on the conditions and discipline. This particular tire is made from T9 Gripton, which uses a tacky, slow-rebounding rubber for maximum traction and a predictable feel in the corners. It's softer and grippier than the T7 compound, meaning it favors traction over rolling speed, though the ramped center knobs do help this tire get up to speed quickly.

The Butcher Grid Gravity delivers! I've ridden a lot of different tires over the years and what really amazed me with the new Grid Gravity T7/T9 was how much damping the tire offered. Usually a Gravity tire with stiff sidewalls deflects more over the irregularities in the trail. Not this tire, simply run your normal tire pressure and point it through the gnar. With the increased damping in the tire I even opened up the rebound a little bit in the forks to bring back a little bit of the poppy feel. Sounds counter-intuitive but the the faster the fork the faster it get's back to the ground. With any sticky tire you will notice the reduced roll speed but the grip it offers his well worth the compromise for shredding the downhill section for the local KOM, enduro race or simply just monster trucking through rock gardens. I've been rolling this tire on the front of a Hightower now for a few weeks in the 29 x 2.3 version and hit everything from flow, to rocks, to hike a bike free ride lines and have been really impressed with the grip and wear of the tire. If i was signing up for the local Enduro race today this would be my front tire of choice for a gnarly and steep enduro. Also adding in that I easily mounted this tire with a MTB floor pump no compressor needed. 175lbs I run 22 psi
