Shimano’s new Deore XT Disc Brake is part of Shimano’s sexy new M8000 gruppo. The new brake offers a few subtle refinements for a reduction in weight and a sleeker look. The redesigned brake features a new lever with an integrated master cylinder and, of course, a menacing black ano finish. It frees up a bit of real estate on your dashboard with a narrower clamp, and its compatibility with the latest generation of Shimano's I-Spec design, I-Spec II, means that it can also anchor I-Spec II shift levers, saving even more space by attaching both the shift and brake levers with one clamp.

In addition to the excellent power and modulation, the XT Brakes provide easy adjustment to keep your fingers happy and intuitively in control. There's also a tool-free reach adjustment that you're able to dial on-the-fly, along with a free stroke adjustment that lets you determine lever-blade-to-travel before pads make contact with the rotor.

Also, Shimano reworked pivot location so that the arc of the lever mimics the natural movement of fingers for enhanced power. Servo Wave technology comes into play here in order to adjust piston travel relative to lever travel. As you squeeze on the brakes, the gap to the rotor quickly closes, then slows to permit predictable modulation. This allows the pads to sit further from the rotors at rest for less chance of drag. The calipers house a 22mm ceramic piston for inspiring stopping power, and Shimano uses a banjo fitting for the hose attachment at the caliper. The calipers also employ Shimano's Radiator Pads that have integrated fins in order to dissipate heat and to reduce fade on long, hot descents.

The Shimano XT BL-M8000 Hydraulic Disc Brake has hinged, split clamps for easy mounting. It comes as a pre-bled lever/caliper/hose assembly and it’s complete for each end of the bike—except for rotors (sold separately). Shimano XT Brakes will work equally well with XT Ice Tech Rotors or standard XT rotors. Please note that this brake is sold separately as either Left/Front or Right/Rear.

    What to say here - these XT's are as good as I've had. Over the past several years, I have had the terrible Avid Elixir 5's, (bleeding is a regular occurrence, and it's difficult to get right) swapped those for the predecessor to these - the XT M785's. Loved those. Had the Avid X0 Trail brakes on another bike which worked well, but never had the modulation that the Shimanos offer. These M8000's are great. I shortened both front and rear hoses easily, bled them, and went riding.

    Great adjustability, great modulation, and they are super reliable. Easily the best investment in the MTB brake world right now on a pure performance per dollar basis. Great price and service from Backcountry.

    I cannot get over how great these brakes are, especially when paired with the Ice-tech rotors!.
    I run these brakes on my 29er and I do alot of hard riding on Rocky terrain with steep hills, and I relie on my brakes alot. and these brakes will lock on a dime but u can also feather effectively!

    if you ever experience squeling with these pads, nail on the brakes at around 20 or so mph, two or three times, cleans it right up.

    Great brakes! Requires a lot of setup

      Yes, these are excellent brakes! But you probably already know that.
      I ride a Medium MTB (Niner MCR) and the hoses on these brakes were waaaaaay too long. I knew they'd be longer than what I've got, but not +12" longer (the front brake wasn't so ridiculously long, but the rear was 16" too long). So after you purchase these brakes, go to Epic Bleed Solutions, buy their bleed kit, hydraulic hose cutters, and 8mm spanner. I recommend them because they also have a detailed step-by-step on how to cut your new Shimano brake cables (hopefully) without needing to bleed your brakes. But if something goes wrong, you will need to bleed the brakes, so have a kit on standby. Anyone with the right tools can cut the hoses, it doesn't take special skill. But it is tedious, and anytime I'm risking adding air to my hydraulic lines I'm sweating bullets.
      Bottom line, excellent brakes for a good price! But these pre-bled brakes are only plug-and-play if you're a big rider.

      It used to be that XT brakes were pretty much the only trustworthy brakes available. Nowadays there's actually a lot of great, reliable options. However, great to see the XTs are staying relevant as well. Same old reliability, feel, and power as always. They definitely do not have the best modulation out there, but plenty to work with once you're used to them. Like any hydraulic brake they take some maintenance to continue to work well. If you own ANY hydraulic brake I would highly recommend investing in the bleed kit and taking the time mastering the bleeding process, it's worth it.

      Pump em to work

      Started having problems with them where they pulled all the way to the bar on the first stroke so you had to pump them to engage solid! Easy fix right just needs bled, Did that and new pads and they go to the bar and you have to pump em-now the bike shop talked to the Shimano rep and he says that's ok-the shop worked the Shimano forums and they are all complaining about this problem with these brakes. I cant recomend these now that Shimano has a design issue and they admit it.

      Been riding mountain bikes at a high level for 23 years...tried every cool brand made for every part of the bike...In the end I also learned not much reason to buy anything other than Shimano XT for any drivetrain/brake part on the bike. They work flawlessly, awesome quality, always improving...and these new xt brakes? Lever perfect size and fit, the new clamp allows for attaching other things to the bar...and of course amazing braking power.

      This brakes are bombproof. Feel great, look great, tons of power. Not quite as much modulation as SRAM Guides, but definitely more durable

      What is the length of the pre-bled hoses for both front and rear?

      Hi Cameron. The rear brake cable is 1,700mm long, and the front cable is 1,000mm long.

      I made the switch to Shimano XT's 2 years ago and won't go back to anything else. I've experienced nothing but reliability and confidence in these brakes. I bleed them once a season and change then pads out when needed, and that's all I've had to do. The price is reasonable for how long they'll last you and they look pretty cool up on the handle bars too. Levers are a good size and make it easy to engage with a single finger and the response time is incredible. I would highly recommend these brakes to most any mountain biker out there.

      Set up was easy, but I did have to trim both front and rear hoses. They feel great now with nice firm level-feel and outstanding modulation. They feel about a million times better than Guide R's and feel the same as Deores, but look a bit sleeker. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

      Does the calipers come w/ cooling fins as pictured on this ad?

      Had the generation of XT's before and these look way sleeker. I love the modulation of these brakes and how the have a on/off feel. These brakes are great for cross country all the way up to all mountain and have even ridden them on my downhill bike.

        I cut the cable during install and ended up needing to bleed them to get the air out. Now they have way more power and they look great.
