Great, comfortable show

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45.5

I've used this shoe exclusively for about a year, about 3,500 miles riding road and hardpack trails. I don't race cyclocross, so I can't vouch for how well they hold up under that kind of stress. At shoe size 11, the 45.5 fits like a glove, and I've had no foot pain, blisters, and they have plenty of miles remaining. I haven't had a better shoe, but have used only Shimano MD88s previously, clearly in a different class.

Weak Sauce

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These were great to start. The sole is stiff but still comfortable on long rides. Great fit and true to size. BUT, the insoles are junk. Paper thin. So thin you can feel the tips of the cleat screws in the bottom of your foot. Sadly after only 3 months of owning them the side of my foot brushed a tree (not hard enough to even bruise my foot) and the side of the shoe filleted open. In hindsight the shoe material is really thin and weak. Whether they're just made cheap or they were being weight conscious they simply fell apart too easily.

Thankfully BackCountry was very helpful and very expedient in handling the warranty. They have me an immediate store credit and replaced these with the Shimano XC-90. IMO, for less money and a carbon sole, the XC 90 has been a much better shoe for me so far!
