Why We Like The Santa Cruz Bronson C R Mountain Bike

The mid-travel quiver-killer from Santa Cruz returns sporting new improvements that update its capability and fit. For the fifth generation of the Bronson, Santa Cruz pulled out all the stops, bringing in geometry improvements, a redesigned suspension layout, and new frame features for more capability all over the mountain. The Bronson still sits on 150mm of VPP suspension and is now even more capable on the downhill. The Bronson is longer and slacker, thanks to the new 64.2-degree headtube angle in the high setting, ensuring better stability in steeper terrain and a more balanced weight bias for better balance and stability. The redesigned VPP suspension pivot layout rotates the rear shock forward in the frame and parallel to the ground, providing lower anti-squat values for a plusher, smoother ride. The more progressive suspension kinematics throw down more climbing and descending traction. The Bronson still sports its mixed-wheel setup for the best combination of agility and efficiency, and it carries over its threaded bottom bracket and UDH configuration. The finishing features for the Bronson 5 include chainstay and downtube protection, the Glovebox internal frame storage, a flip chip to slacken out our geometry for bike park days, and silent internal cable routing.

The R build of the Santa Cruz Bronson is the entry-level build but still comes with quality components we can trust on the trails. This build starts with Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame, a lightweight, durable frame with a great reputation. SRAM's NX Eagle drivetrain equips us with a proven and reliable drivetrain and a big gear range for conquering any technical climb. The Reserve 30TR 6061 aluminum rims are lightweight and keep us rolling efficiently through rock gardens, while the Maxxis Assegai and DHRII tires throw down the grip we need for aggressive riding. SRAM DB8 Stealth brakes equip us with simple but powerful four-piston, mineral oil brakes for easy maintenance and tons of power. Finally, the Fox Float Rhythm rear shock equips us with a simple, no-frills design for a set-and-forget setup, while the RockShox Lyrik Select 160mm fork equips us with a plush and capable fork for handling bigger hits.

*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
